    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could give me a few suggestions on how to neatly reproduce black rubber gaskets around the window edges of Kato locomotives (as already applied by FVM to their GEVOs)?

I've attempted simply painting but would be interested to know if anyone uses a different method.

    Cheers,
    Michael

I also use the fine tip Sharpie, good advice.

Just make sure the Sharpie is the last thing you use. If you DullCoat after the Sharpie, it will bleed all over your work.

    Thanks for the quick response.

When using the Sharpie, do you remove all the glazing and colour the inside of the sills as well or can this be done from the 'outside'?

Unless you're really certain of a steady hand, removing the glazing is probably advisable.

I just paint min with a fine brush and paint. Paint inside the window frame helps hide the thickness of the shell too.

    Michael,
Most definitely remove the glazing. It is easy to do and will allow you to get the tip of the pen further into the sill. Just draw the tip around the sill until you are happy with the results. If you are not happy with the outcome just dip a q-tip into some rubbing alcohol and draw it around the sill, wipe with a clean q-tip and try the Sharpie again. If you have a scrap shell practice on it first. The pen doesn't have to be a Sharpie brand just use something with a very fine tip.

Micro-brush and paint to the inside of the window frame on the shell works fine for me too.
