It looks closer to a wood boxcar. I was looking forward to adding a couple of these to my stock car fleet. (Non sound version). Until I saw it. No thanks.

The heavy details also killed it for me.

For sure, It is not a fine scale model , but the sound is cool , if you are into the sound.
    Thanks , Mike

I agree with you Mike, not fine scale models, however couple them with those like MT that are and adds a nice little detail not usually found on your layout in N Scale. Also quite difficult to notice when done that way as your video showed quite well.
Kind of like one of those sound cars that follow a Locomotive; displayed awhile back. I like them

Not for me, thanks. I was expecting a credible model of a PRR K7 stock car from BLI...

Like I said in the other thread... all BLI had to do was have a proper see-through body and use plastic inserts to hide the hardware in sound-equipped cars. They would still have been able to produce only one body- no money lost. Two little rectangular pieces of plastic.

Granted, the car has other issues... disappointing choices worth grumping about, but not necessarily deal-breakers. The solid body is a deal-breaker. I wouldn't buy a passenger car, or a caboose, or a locomotive with 'simulated' windows in solid sides... why would I buy a stock car similarly lacking? Sheesh, they didn't even bother to paint the gaps and create the illusion of open slats.

It's sloppy, and the company is clearly capable of doing better- every other model they've produced has been visually stunning and I'm proud to show them off. I will continue to purchase BLI products, when they meet the standard set by those other releases (and when they finally make it to market;)), because every company has its missteps... but these stock cars should be recalled. Especially since it wasn't clear that the things would have solid sides until they started shipping. I didn't preorder any, but I feel sorry for anyone who did.

I ordered one with sound and a matching 4 pack with no sound. I rather like them. Since I will be running them on TRAK layouts the lack of see through slats will make no difference. The build quality is quite good and the have a nice heft.

The only question I have had is that I have tried to adjust the 'sensitivity' of the sounds. At first, I got continuous mooing but now I only get one moo when they first power up. Is there some trick I am missing? I have played with all the 'sensitivity' values.

I think the 'sensitivity' settings control how much empathy is in the recorded moo, not how often you hear them. ;)

I preordered a set without sound and was worrying what I would get now. Today I received my set and must say it looks better than expected. At least when I look at them without magnifiers.
I have understood that all BLI's car bodies are ABS plastic, which I think is not the case for other manufacturers. Could this be a reason why their details look a bit thick? If anyone knows more about plastic production technology, I would be glad to learn more.

very poor product. outdoor braced boxcar. not stock car heavy detail. they should be ashamed of this product. need to retool and send new bodies out with see threw detail . I had bought 2 four car sets and one sound. I feel like I got reaped off. never preorder again.

I thought the moo idea was a cutesy gimmick, but hey, who am I to judge. But, I was looking forward to a decent model of a unique stock car, without sound. This thing is just awful. A solid body? Solid stirrups? Clunky details? I don't know what they were thinking....
    No thanks!

Perhaps these models were manufactured by High Speed Rails... and Broadway Limited didn't know about their historic work in N Scale.

would be fun if they made one that you could record your own sounds.

With etched brass roof walk, ladders and end stirrups it could be made to look better. Also the ATSF did not put the Santa Fe cross herald on stock cars. That would have to be removed and everything weathered. For the asking price, hmmm, I don't know. But on an NTRAK show layout it sure would draw the interest of the kids. Might help pull them into hobby?

I can see why they made the decision to not have the see-through slats in the sides. With all the interior sound equipment, it would be kind of distracting. Perhaps they could have put opaque film inside with black silhouettes of animals printed on them, a-la the old Bachmann shorty passenger cars with people silhouettes.

There's a thread about these on Railwire where someone's posted some shots of theirs... the sound equipment can easily be made less visible by blackening it with a sharpie, and when a shell lifted from another stock car was fitted over the chassis it was almost completely unnoticeable even with see-through slats (it would pass the three foot rule even for my youngster eyes- the solid carsides most certainly do not). There was also speculation that the solid shell might do double duty as a speaker enclosure... but there already is one, right beneath the circuit board. Those were the only justifiable reasons for that design choice, so...
