econami 100 decoder

I have installed just about every decoder around, but haven't found a diesel engine wide enough for this decoder.

Has anyone, succesfully put an econami 100 decoder in an N gauge diesel. Details please

 

I have it installed in a FT unit. Not really happy. Poor motor control and and can't run it in DC at all making it difficult to clean wheels.

Also endless problems with the sound functions. Sometimes some don't work when others are just fine at the same time. And yes before anyone says it needs a capacitor it has 2. And the engine does not stutter when the sound problems occur.

I am to the point of pulling it out and putting something else in its place.

 

Thank you for your response.... just for others to know. I had 2 that overheated .. both replaced by Soundtraxx (albeit one replacement took 2 months) ...... took significant body sanding to get it to fit ..... it is just too wide for the average n gauge unit! On the other hand Locksound Micro is just that much thinner that it can fit. Econami 100 is now sitting idle on my workbench!!

 

Yeah I am looking at the loksound micro to replace it.

 

I have installed three of them. Two in a Bachmann GP7, and another in an Atlas GP38-2. I like the LokSound Select Micro better because of the better motor control. However, the Econami is cheaper by about $15. After playing with the CVs for speed, I finally matched the Econami with the LokSound. It's 0.1mm thinner than the ESU LokSound Select Micro too, but I think that's going to change in the future.

 

I know that the published dimension is .1mm narrower but from my experience with the shrink wrap I haven't found them to fit in the average 10mm wide body and yet I have found that the Loksound does fit. I would be curious to know how much "body sanding" you did in your installations.

 

I have never had any problems with the Economy. Motor control and sound work as advertised. No heating issues.

 

I've had to sand the inside of every N scale locomotive that had an ESU LokSound Select Mirco DCC decoder in it. With the Econami, I didn't have to sand at all. I'm guessing I had to take out 0.2-0.4mm of material (total both sides) from the insides of the shell.
