I saw it in the orange county ca craigslist under collectibles. They say its from Knott's berry farm.
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/clt/3643273141.html Has me jumping up and down making little kid noises. I WANT IT. haha. Too bad it's in cali
Well, it does not appear to be a derelict or disaster. It would be interesting to know if this is acquired and restored fully. Didn't see a price?
After reading the ad, I did a search for "Bud Hurlbut" and found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wendell_"Bud"_Hurlbut . Reading the article and seeing "Bud's train business was bought and is in production under Katiland Trains Amusement Co. of Temecula, CA in 2012." I searched to find http://katilandtrains.com/ . WOW!
I have been puzzling over this since it first showed up. Don't claim ex-spurt status on Walter Knott's Berry Farm, but one iteration of my youth (or two) placed me nearby. I remember when there was no fee to get into the place. I remember the wagon circle with bonfire pit and stage. I remember Cable Cars (modified) running all the way around the main parking lot to bring you into the park proper. I remember the two best rides (and probably ONLY rides) inside the park were the main stem train and the stagecoach ride. I do knott remember ever seeing a 14" gauge line anywhere, especially an internal combustion version of external combustion. Where exactly was this 14" gauge line in the park? Dave
I never saw it, but this was a miniature train that ran around the Lagoon. The lagoon was bulldozed to become the main parking lot when the previous main lot became camp Snoopy. The Narrow gauge Railroad was the Ghost town and Calico railroad. Personally, I find gas powered miniature steam railroads a disappointment, but then, that's because I grew up with the 16" Kiddie Land Steamers and the MTC F2s. First video is live steam. Cocks blowing, steam out of the whistle. 2009 is at least 40 years after my very last visit there. Condition of the one in Craig's List would seem to indicate it is substantially older than 2009. First video is Kiddieland in Melrose Park, IL Second one, with the diseasemals, is Kiddieland in Melrose Park, IL. Are you saying the Knotts stuff went to Illinois? Dave
Not at all in any way did I say or imply that. I implied the kbf train isn't cool, because it isn't live steam.
