My grandparents, parents, and others of their generations pronounced Taopi, Minnesota, Tee-Opee. Nowadays, many pronounce it Tah-Opee. Related, the company that makes Spam (the food, not the annoying email) in my hometown of Austin, MN should be pronounced HOR-mel, not hor-MEL. It's German and they never accent the second syllable in names. I guess the modern business world just thinks hor-MEL sounds more sophisticated. Doug
