Hey guys, I'm modeling the Frisco in HO scale (in addition to my Oklahoma & North Eastern) in the 1970s, with focus on the 1975-1980 time frame. I just got around to building up my intermodal fleet for inclusion in the QLA and Texas Special fast freights (gives my rebuilt GP40-2s something to pull). I know the 40-foot trailers were pretty plentiful, but what I'm curious about is when the 45-footers started showing up on "pig" trains. Since I'm staying true to prototype, I can't do doublestacks (darn), so I want my TOFC trains to be as correct as possible. Also, when did containers start showing up in freights? Thanks in advance..... ------------------ Ship IT on the Frisco! Bob T. http://hometown.aol.com/slsf1630/myhomepage/profile.html
This site http://www.modelintermodal.com/ has some info that may be helpful. You might want to dig around in the history parts.
Found it- thanks! Looks like I'll be able to do 45' trailers after all ------------------ Ship IT on the Frisco! Bob T. http://hometown.aol.com/slsf1630/myhomepage/profile.html
Update: Actually, no I won't be able to use 45' trailers, not if I want to stay true to prototype. I did get lots of good responses from lots of Frisco Fanatics, so I'm well on my way to filling out my TOFC fleet. ------------------ Southeast....Southwest.. Ship IT on the Frisco! According to several former Frisco employees (and very knowledgeable Frisco modelers), the 45' trailers weren't seen on the rails in Frisco territory until after the BN merger. Since I'm not modeling anything after November 21, 1980 (the BN-Frisco merger), I'm not going to be using 45' trailers, doublestacks, etc. Strict, yes, but I'm trying to stay close to prototype as possible. Now, should I ever do a what-if freight consist, that would change ------------------ Southeast....Southwest.. Ship IT on the Frisco! Bob T. http://hometown.aol.com/slsf1630/myhomepage/profile.html
