I was surfing around the Seattle Fire Department website and found some pictures of the incident in 2001 when a Kalmar container crane fell over on a car, trapping the driver. There are also pictures of a rescue from the Seattle monorail. Crane rescue photos [ 27. October 2002, 08:56: Message edited by: cthippo ]
i can't believe that anyone lived through that crushing blow from that crane. That was truely a freak and horrible accident. The rescue on the monorail is something to see too. I have always said our firemen are the bravest men and women we can find. {The new monorail here was said to have been going 55-58 mph when it crashed. That's at least 10 mph over the speed limit. The driver will most likely be found at fault.} The Seattle Fire Dept. site is very well done! Very nice! Great apparatus! I really love Com 1 truck! It's cool!
If I recall correctly, they had to get the BNSF big hook down from Interbay yard to lift it off the car. It was quite the rescue.
Very good pictures. I want to brag a little. I have a cousin who worked for the Bellingham fire dept for about 45 years.. He retired as fire chief. He says he has seen just about everything there is to see about fires and rescues.
