    I'll get some photos

Life has been a Zoo. I went to the world Sicence Fiction convention and got committed to a pair of articles for a publisher, (looks like they come out next May, but it is not locked in stone) The Balloon Fiesta is coming up (I crew for a German team every year) And I feel like a one armed window washer with a broken belt.
None the less I will get some Photos up on Thurs,
    Kevin

Ha ha!!! Sounds like you don't have enough to do! Perhaps a few 25 hour days, and eight day weeks....???

How much work remains to be finished, on the tender body? Before it can be placed back upon it's trucks?

    Hi all,
Just a quick note, regarding our Open House. The weather was great, the gate count was close to 1000, and the entertainment was first class. All the club members made heroic efforts in setup, event support, and cleanup. New memberships were made and community awareness was markedly improved. A number of the attendees were former shop workers that had experiance with "Our Girl" and we gleefully picked thier brains. (grin). More photos soon (I keep forgeting the camera) Ed Bukove our founding member was there with the art that his son did of the 2926, It looks even better in person. We have a SF box car that has been converted to an office / training center, and lectures, or films, or the 3751 sim was running all day. Much fun for all was achieved.
    More to come,
    Kevin

Kevin, great to hear good news from your group. Mr. Bukove's son, active here on Trainboard, certainly is talented. He has done a great drawing of the 2926.
Hey, I want to know two things: 1) How did your baloon crewing thing go at the great baloon races? 2) What is the diameter of the tender wheels you guys are working on?
Someone on another board is asking about tender wheels. You have first hand experience. Keep up the good work. :teeth:

    Sorry I missed this one,
It looks like we have about 4 hours of welding left on the trucks, some assembly, and a FRA brake system inspection. (much easier to do with the trucks isolated) On the water tender, we need to get the ground level fill system installed and some piping refurbished. As far as I know the oil tank is ready. Also the crane needs to be avalible, all in all it really depends on scheduling, certianly by the end of the year, and maby much sooner.

As far as I can tell the wheels on the tender are nominaly 44" in dia. Of course if they have been turned they are a little smaller, the brake shoes we are buying, are a standard fit to one of the diesels in current use, but I woefully ignorant in regards to modern motive power, so I can't say which one.

As for he Balloon Fiesta, of the 11 days we had 8 good flying days but lost one of them shipping the balloon back to germany, and one when the wind was too strong for our special shape.
This is a photo of the balloon,

I got in one flight, and had a great time during the event. As for "Americas challange" gas race they launched Tues night and the last crew landed Thurs night in Florida, second place was on the South Carolina coast, 3rd place was in Georgia.
    Have fun,
    Kevin

Thanks for the updates Kevin. I think it would be a good excuse to schedule a vacation out west when she is ready.

The tender truck looks brand new. Nice work. Is there a reason you refer to it as "truck 13?" :teeth:

The trucks have a number plate on the central bolster. our rear truck is labled 13, and our front truck is labled 4. As I understand it the tender shop would swap in what ever truck was ready when the equipment was in for rebuild, as long as it was the right type of truck. (8 wheel buckeye) As a matter of fact the two trucks are slightly different, the "bell crank" on the brake rigging on truck 4 are slightly curved, where the same crank on 13 is flat. If our guess is right the #4 truck was delivered with engine #3767 (the second locomotive delivered in its class) and truck 13 was delivered with 2906. (the sixth locomotive delivered with the 2900s order) both orders were equiped with the large "long distance" tenders. There is a possibility that thruck 13 came from a tender orignally assinged to one of the 5010s 2-10-4s as they also had the long distance tenders.
