    Pastoolio

I am curious, the sound track was phenomenal, how did you achieve the effect?

Thanks to all who voted for my vid, it's much appreciated! :D Yay!

Owen, thanks for the compliment :) I had asked Mark (Mystere) if he knew of any places on the web to get sounds from, so he told me to go to SoundDogs.com since they have some train sounds. So I found 2 different sounds. One of them was of a train approaching and going by pretty fast. This sound was cut into 2 pieces to allow for my 4 locomotives. Then next sound was of a slow passing train, which was cut up into 3 peices and used for the rest of the autoracks and caboose. I had fadded the sounds in and out and raised and lowered the volume in certain areas to get that diesel rumble and wheel squeel.

The main horn and bell were the actual MRC sound decoder sounds coming from the first SD40-2 of the passing train. I manually did these while the camera was on. The rest of the sounds(air hiss, diesel rumbles, ect.) was coming from another MRC sound decoder installed in a B40-8, which was just out of the picture to the right of the camera. These sounds were supposed to represent the idling locos on the passing siding. In fact at one point you can here the air release almost at the same time, one from the B40-8 and one from the SD40-2 as it curved around my layout to almost behind the camera.

I just wish I could have found a good train horn and bell (like Envirodude did) and used them instead. The MRC sounds are really "tingy" on the camera.
    Glad you liked them :)

    (Mark, is the sig ok?)

From one of the "also ran" contestants, congratulations Mike for a really cool video, love the autoracks. I think I may need to experiment alittle with sounds and get to the next level, you guys have just raised the bar. Had a lot of fun putting together a vid but no votes... harsh dudes, harsh.:tb-embarrassed: Still no worries It's still just for fun, can't wait till next contest.

If it's any condolence, my vote was down to yours and Pastoolio's with Envirodude close in 3rd. Pastoolio got me with a sympathy vote since he "had a mess to clean" :p

Now I know all your tricks Mike. No more sympathy votes from me! [IMG]
