What is the difference between -8 and -9 locos? After looking at them I really can't see a difference. Scot
First two that come to my mind is the -9 is longer than the -8 and has more power.I think the electronics are more advanced on the -9 also. <marquee>North American Rail Alliance</marquee> [ 25 April 2001: Message edited by: Catt ]
Dash-9 series units are slightly longer than their Dash-8 cousins, and like Catt mentioned, have slightly more sophisticated onboard computer gear. Also, they have thicker radiator "wings" than Dash-8s. They have other little external differences too, like layouts of air intakes/vents and carbody panels, but that's relatively minor stuff that only rivet counters like me worry about.
Dash 8 models were designed during the 1980's and Dash 9's were designed during the 1990's, thus the "8" and "9" designations. Oh yeah, forgot to add this, the Dash 7's were designed in the 1970's! [ 27 April 2001: Message edited by: Maxwell Plant ]
Do you mean E-8 and E-9s?? or Dash-8 and Dash-9s??? (sorry, always wondered what the difference was in the E-6/E-8/E-9/etc locos)
