Definitely think that the IM (old Red Caboose) racks look the best right out of the box. I didn't pre order any of the Scale Trains racks myself so I have not seen one in person. However, I was very surprised to hear that they didn't go with the etched metal side panels. Wonder how hard it would be to replace the panels on the Scale Trains racks. Done that to several old ConCor racks and it does improve them a great deal. Most of the ones I did were using the JnJ etched metal panels. Really wish those were still available. I did one using Plano panels and while they look good, I felt like they were a tad too thin and very fragile so I wasn't particularly happy with my end result. Here is the compare between the stock ConCor (bottom) and the same car with the Plano panels (top)
Hey guys just got these in the mail got a killer deal on the prairie it needed to be reclocked and a new driver pin installed 20 minute fix running great now
The last time I saw one of those snowplows was at the museum in Allouez (Green Bay). They had two. One in very bad condition, missing the wings and the other was all there but very rough looking. I would like to have one like you show.
Okay not wanting to be a rivet counter by the qc on the new cars are noticeable. I’ll do more on that later with pictures
Columbia? That's interesting. I've seen other places that the QC on the very nice Intermountain racks was a bit questionable.
I finally got the weight/distribution correct in these. I can now run them anywhere in the front middle back of the train with no problems
I took out the stock 18 gram weight and replaced with 14 over each wheel set. It can now take my tightest curve no problem
It’s nice to have my work bench Simple mod and now I have the 10car Canadian being pulled by 1 loco even on r249 Kato curves
This is really bad quality control especially considering the price of these new auto racks what a shame
That's so annoying. Considering the price of a descent consist (at least 10 cars + 2 engines) which is +/- 1000$ msrp... Having to modify the cars right out of the box is a big big deception for me. So sad.... Envoyé de mon SM-G970F en utilisant Tapatalk
I guess I missed something about these VIA cars. What was the issue that required the mod? The trucks not fitting flush maybe?
The outer axle rubs on the centerbeam of the frame due to the thicker insulating sleeve that electrically isolates the axles on each side of the truck. I just added shims to my cars thick enough to alleviate the rubbing but not enough to interfere with the electrical pickup into the body.
