    Sten-

I can't speak for ALCo's in Australia. Not many ALCo's here had an A-1-A. Excluding the late "Century" series, with a few exceptions, most of their "C" trucked units were an ALCo designed variant of the "Tri-Mount."

The only A-1-A + A-1-A Alcos here were the NSWGR 40 class locos.

Sten, I'm assuming you work for CityRail, what's your depot? I'm at Waterfall.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Here some Australian made Alcos (I think). They were on the head end of a railfan trip. Almost a Bulldog there! [IMG]

They are indeed! 4807 and 4490 are part of the NSW Rail Transport Museum's diesel fleet.

I'm probably biased, but I reckon 44's are much better than "Bulldogs"! :)

    All the best,

    Mark.

Dont forget the couple thousand KM's of 2 foot gauge cane railways in Queensland! Many private operators would love to haul the tonnages that the cane railways move during the 6 month harvesting season. Invicta Mill at Giru carries over 3,000,000 tonnes/year with a fleet of 13 Locomotives (3 18tonne Comengs, 1 26tonne Baldwin, 2 32Tonne Baldwins, 2 40tonne Ex-QR DH's and 5 38tonne Ex-NSWGR 73 class) and boasts the longest run in the industry (Dalbeg, 119Km to terminus).

    Cheers,
    David.

When reading your signature, and as a Latin Track magazine subscriber, what amazes me is 30000 tons trains running on metric gauge track, thus with a locomotive and car gauge beeing the same than in North America, thus beeing larger than that we have here in Europe on standard gauge track....
