    Hello,

Probably because I'm always moaning about the non-availability of Horizon cars, one of our group here in the UK (who is an avid Amtrak modeler) has designed one and submitted it to Shapeways for printing. It arrived on Friday and he brought it to the meeting yesterday and with one or two minor problems it looks brilliant!
The attached picture shows the design, and even though it is not available yet, it appears on the Shapeways website at http://www.shapeways.com/model/771802/amtrak-horizon-coach-2.html?li=productBox-search

His next stage is to add minor improvements then do the Diner. He also hopes to produce a separate floor/underframe. Any comments would be welcomed!!
    Regards

    David,

That looks great! I went to the website and saw the Lounge/Dinette too. When will these be available?

As long as Kato keeps making the correct trucks, he should be golden. Looking forward to these!

Would an American Limited core kit floor and underbody detail parts work?

Fantastic! Please thank him for bringing this to N scale and for his continued efforts!!

(Of course, you realize that he has now jinxed it. The Kato version will be out in a year or three.)

Nice. I just hope Shapeways does these justice. I have had bad luck with those guys. It would be nice if these models were rendered by a higher quality rapid prototyper and resin cast.

Thank you for your comments - he has now attached the coach and diner together by means of a sprue on the underside support - apparently this makes it cheaper. I've ordered a pair which should be here in time for the next meeting (weekend after next). He's also done underframes for both (see attachments), and I've got an American Limited core kit for another project which I'll take along to see if that fits. When all arrive I'll try and take some photos and post them.

    Regards

    David

What about flush fitting windows? Now that would make the models really "POP!!!"
