Kim; Fantasic work.... I've been checking in on this thread since you started it, and am amazed by the complexity of your small station. Any one of the animated items you built in would have been impressive, however with them all combind, the results are astounding. I have often thought about what I will do in a few years when my current Z project is complete, and now I know...... Z scale animation.... very, very cool. Keep up the great work!!!! Tony B.. Wasatch Z Club
Thanks Tony, I am still deciding on a few details for the station and I had to add a light in the front of the station because it was dark after I put in the sun shade. I cut a EL lamp and wired it, and it looks OK, not too bright and evenly distributed.. View from the bottom I am hoping to complete the station by next week. Kim
Wow!! It just keeps on getting better and better!!!! Looks Great!!! EL lighting is so cool, literally and figuratively. Busy, busy, busy station!!! Hobo Tim
Perfect ! This El-Light just give the right Illumination together with yellowish from inside.:thumbs_up::thumbs_up:
I have been stalled for a while on this I am waiting for a chip to drive the LED's, the 45 LED's even at ~8ma per LED it is 360ma, All the current drivers I have requires a high wattage resistor or heat sinks for the driver chips, so I just ordered a current driver that is efficient and does not heat up. Waiting for it to show up.... Kim
I wonder how EL light for passenger car interiors would look? Probably pretty good for my AZL Surfliner cars. Need track powered EL light source. I wonder if we can feed an RF source on the rails without damaging DCC decoders?
Rob, I got you covered, It will kind of look like this Checkout http://www.kimsartshop.com/lighting.html I have been wanting to convert all my Passenger cars (EU ones) to EL lamps...with constant EL lighting with people inside. I used small drivers that are used for watch EL lighting which is good for up to 2 sqr inches of EL lamp. Kim
I have been trying to make this work for the past few weeks. The simple LED driver took all my time. Got my chip and promptly made the PCB for it This chip was was heating up quite a bit and I could not figure a easy way to sink the heat.I was also running at its max limit, so after letting the smoke and light out of a few chips I had to move on to a different chip. after a week's worth of waiting got the new one and tested it it works well without any heating so the lighting was done.
Completed the power board to power the station Final assy powered up for testing So this is how it looks like with all the lights ON Added white LED's to be able to see the people by the window, rather than look like back lit.
Looks like I have to dim the white LED a little more.... A few more lamp posts on the outside then I can start detailing the outside, If I dont drop it..... Kim
Kim, those bright white lights may look bright to you, but to the camera they look perfect! Leave them bright like they are so people's photos come out good! I want to take a video of the motion, and with those bright white lights, we will be able to better see the activity inside!
Progress is slow but managed to spend some time detailing Just Yellow coloured paper with some thin paint Remember this is a macro photo and all the imperfections is not visible.
