I have acquired another OO scale class 60, this time in the grey livery, which is my favourite for these locomotives.
The two wagons which can be seen are also new arrivals. These are HAA coal hoppers, I intend having enough of these to form a trainload. They definitely need very heavy weathering!
Alan, A few more great looking additions!! I still can't get over how different the British engines look compared to the U.S. The old steamers looked practicaly the same but the switch came with diesels. Did they ever have anything similar to F units in England?
Be careful Alan, this is a bad trend you are falling into....You'll be moving the autos onto the other side of the street and changing the decor to suit english scenery. I can see why you are drawn tot hat grey unit. It is very "pretty".
Dunno about a 66, Gary, but a couple of 37's may be acquired, and a class 56. Quite like the grey class 31 also
The only thing that looked remotely american was the prototype deltic, complete with american style headlight, luckily it has been preserved. Picture here http://www.madeinpreston.co.uk/Rail/railway.html paul
Yeah, that prototype Deltic was a most unusual sight at the time it was running! Being bright blue with silver? stripes and a large headlight it certainly stood out! I saw it a few times on the east coast main line around Peterborough and again in Edinburgh. Pity I was not using colour film in those days - all I got was a blurry black and white picture of it leaving Edinburgh Waverley station
I keep looking at that very first picture. And thinking. Isn't OO scale slightly larger than HO? Different track gauge? But the engine appears to be on Andersley Western HO tracks? Boxcab E50
Ken, OO is larger due to scale (1/72 (or is it 1/76?) vs 1/87.1) but due to the physical size difference in prototype, they turn out roughly the same size. Track gauge is the same, though. Correct for HO but narrow for true OO (should be ~3mm wider). The upsizing of the model relative to the track still makes it look ok.
Just bought a Bachmann class 66 - couldn't resist, it was at a very good price for a brand new model Pics later.
They are very nice models - i've modified mine to get a working Kadee on the front with a fixed pilot, but otherwise it's out-of-the-box. I just need one for every other modern freight I have now. When I get motivated i'll modify a couple of small detail issues on the front, add wing mirrors and maybe renumber. Not overly motivated on my modern UK stock at present though!
