I really enjoyed putting together the one I have but sadly the 'coms' blown on the motor recently so I need to change the armature when I get a minute. It does look the part though and people are always amazed at shows when you explain it started out as a German 0-6-0T. I wouldn't mind getting a couple more at some stage.

Nigel Lawton (009) used to have a replacement mini motor for the BR89 chassis.

I have used Nigel Lawton's replacement motors in three different chassis. Only one ever worked with any efficiency and even then it would slowly begin to slow down. I chose to use the 5 pole Marklin motor when ever I can. I have come across two more of these SW-1 kits, I plan on building one and if the right opportunity presents itself, allow the second to find another home. Lajos Thek was a master at his kits.

Yes he was. His kits are so well designed and thought out. I would be interested in your extra kit if you decide to part with it. I love these little kits. I’ve been working on etching my own switcher but the y6 project is my focus right now.

I couldn’t agree more. They look great running around the layout. Most people are just amazed to see Z scale around my parts.

Here is the original SW-1 built by Lajos himself. He gave it to me in payment for a huge center piece module I made for him for the 2008 NTS. Value of module at my rates was around $6000. We both got a good deal. Who has number 2, I wonder? I haven't seen SW1 Lajos.jpg mine in years, perhaps I will try and find it. Jim

I hope I’m just misunderstanding by you saying your Zthek switcher is worth $6000...

Aaron, you don't know me, but no, this SW-1 is not worth $6000. I build, layouts for others and have them around the world. Average price was around $4000. The five piece module for the NTS was a bit larger therefore the higher price. I'm retired from model railroading now, but have a big closet full of old stuff laying around. I've sold much of it, but I don't remember getting rid of the SW-1. This one especially. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Here is a photo of my work you may enjoy. Happy Holidays. Jim

    Thanks Jim

    I like your work, too.

I understand how you meant your remark. It's true, as well.
