I was recently at a family reunion and discovered that my cousin had just completed his training to become a conductor. He went on to tell me about his responsibilities and what his days were like, I couldn't wait to go back home and apply immediately! I have been applying for about 3 months now and have had no luck. On May 28th I applied for a conductor trainee position in Denver. I have yet to hear anything back about that specific position, which should be a good thing right? My main question/fear is that its just a "glitch" with their online system. On every other application I have entered I have been sent a thanks but no thanks email, but not this one. I have sent an email to the Director of Public Affairs for my region and also the region of where the position is located, but no reply. Has anyone else had any issues with their application process? Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Have you asked your cousin about how his application went?

I'd look for a phone number for HR where you applied and call; the online application and emails seem not to be getting responses.

Yeah I did try to call that specific person multiple times, would not answer. Also my cousin is a vet. so other than his work exp. thats prob what got him in.

What I meant in asking your cousin was to find out how communicative they were and how long his hiring process took. Not good statistically, but it's a benchmark.

Some HR departments (back when, we were Personnel, not Human Resources) are like that. If you're not an employee or actively being considered for employment, they don't have time for you. Don't take it personally.

At the same time, don't quit your current job.

Your cousin may be your "in," a year or two down the road. I wouldn't expect him to have much, if any, pull right away.

Try not to "overthink" the process. If you don't hear back, just keep on applying anywhere you can and keep on doing what you're doing until then.
