Another fan of the ol' two-tone green dogwood scheme here! (Hated the later ones.) [IMG]

Just acquired a pair of dogwood-decorated ALCOs for my railroad. [IMG]

    Ken,
Go ahead and post the trainorders. Would be neat to see them.

    Model pictures

Well, here -finally - are some pictures of the models I had mentioned in that post long ago. I had forgotten about it, and I was taking some shots of my newly acquired On3 K-37 (cf. NG threads MMI K-37 in On3 has come out - TrainBoard.com), when I remembered I could take a few shots of those BCR units. Sorry for having forgotten to remove the dust on the Alcos! But maybe that is fitting for them.

The RDC has a Proto 1000 model as its origin, with parts added mainly from Eric: Miniatures by Eric Detail Parts

There are some obvious compromises like the darkened windows and the wrong placement of the RDC number boards. But I feel that the overall impression is not too bad.

The Alcos are Atlas models. I am not quite sure whether the particular scheme with the recessed lower front lights is prototypically correct for 800 numbers. Mostly - if not exclusively - one sees this version for engines with 700 numbers. But they look sufficiently similar anyway, and I like the paint scheme with these many lights. I did not bother to try to illuminate them. The only one that I did illuminate is the central front light on the RDC.

By the way, the Kato model also mentioned in that post has not progressed since.

Oh well, I can't resist. Here is one of those dogwood flowers from my garden. It's one of last year of course, but the buds are already there for this year.

We had a dogwood in our front yard, where I grew up. Always looked forward to seeing it blossom. Miss seeing it, and the BCR as well. :(

The two tone green BCR paint was classic. In 1975 I rode the Budd Cars to Prince George from N.Van and return. A very excellent trip. Just wish I'd known there was no meal service. I was starved after going from 07:30 to 21:00.
Never did like the new Red White and Blue paint.
Rode the "Royal Hudson" a few times and even had a cab ride from Squamish to N.Van.
On another note Athearn is bringing out their wide vision caboose in BCR two tone green this spring in the RTR line.
Three of the former BCR Budd cars ran here as the Lewis & Clark Explorer for three summers.

    Robert:

The revised two-tone green scheme with recessed rock lights is correct for 800, 805 and 812. Prior to those repaints they were straight stripe with surface-mounted lights.

Great, thanks for this feedback. So both of my numbers are prototypical then. That's good news. I presume Atlas had done their homework when they selected the numbers for the models. But they applied the paint scheme to the readily available model as is done most often.

I specially appreciate the link to your interesting website. Thanks Tim. I'll be a frequent visitor in the future.

I'm from Winnipeg, but alway a big fan of BC rail for some reason, was unique I guess. I see so much CP and CN out here, but now I see alot of old BC rail dash-9's coming thru Symington Yards.. nice to see its still out there being used.

Hi, new here, and a big BC Rail fan, from BC none the less. I wish I had been born in the earlier, and seen BC Rail in its prime. Now all I see is CN and the odd BC unit tagging along. Makes me sad, also makes me sad that Atlas doesn't make the B39 anymore, anyone know where I can find one for sale?

    Justin-

    Welcome aboard!

You did not say what scale you sought that B39? You could put a wanted note in the appropriate scale Forum here. Or a want ad in out TrainStore section.

Ah that would be HO scale. I posted a want ad in the TrainStore. Hopefully something comes up. I have one C420 and I'm hoping to get at least one of every BC Rail unit. I've already started on my 4x8 HO layout and hope to set it from PG to Williams Lake in the late 70's early 80's and modern times.

    BCRail RDC's

The former BCRail RDC's 31, 10 & 11 are now running on the Wallowa & Union Railroad in northeast Oregon in tourist service.

Meanwhile, if you have any layout plan or photos to share?

I'll have to snap a few pics and scan a few things but I'll do that later tonight.

I wonder how much money it would take to buy BCRail back from CN....
