I agree, but I've been kinda busy arranging to build and move to a new house about 25 miles north, away from the water. Spent the past few days packing up rolling stock and dis-assembling the layout.

    Now I get to design a whole new B&M, Saucier Division.....:w20z6q: :w20z6q: :w20z6q:

I also grew up next to a railroad in Sudbury, Mass. I grew up at the intersection of the NH and B&M. I spent many a day wandering around the intersection. I have some neat pictures of the crossing in S. Sudbury and a partial picture of the Freight House that was just on the other side of the NH tracks next to the B&M original station. I have a few pictures of some rolling stock and tank cars next to Philgas on Route 20. This was in the late 50's and early 60's.

I remember being quite young and blueberrying and seeing B&M steamers go by. There was a lot of pasenger traffic on the NH around the time of the Korean war and saw a few circus cars. We saw a lot of maintenance vehicles on the NH. I only remember the SW line of small switchers on the NH.

I'm curious- Can you tell me some of the history behind that paint scheme?

    :D

In the early 20's, the B&M painted two of their P-2 Pacifics in this scheme, blue, red, and buff, naming them Paul Revere and William Dawes, allegedly for special trains. The colors used were those used in Revolutionary times for the uniforms of the Continental soldier. Later in the 20's, they painted two more P-2's in a two toned green scheme for use on the then "Flying Yankee" (before the diesel unit). All were returned to basic black by the early 30's. When I can get up the capital outlay, I intend to do the "Flying Yankee", too. The green schem is quite handsome.

Just for chuckles, I painted one of my 4-8-2's in the green scheme (although the wide yellow tender stripe didn't exist on the B&M locos) and lettered it for my own D&RJRR just to see what it would look like.

For special trains. So these never saw a regular run? More like officials trains?

I like the green scheme you've created. That looks nice.

I only used the word "special" as that's the word I remember seeing in reference to them. That being said, I have a photo of "Paul Revere" on the head end of an otherwise ordinary looking passenger train. I suspect the two of them were regularly assigned to "regular"trains most of the time. Further research may give more answers. There is a photo of "Paul Revere" on the Fallen Flags site, under Boston and Maine, from the Stephen G.Myers collection, called 4-6-2 at Troy NY.

    Thanks for the kudos.

Hi Tom, welcome to the Train Board. We're happy to have you aboard, especially riding the B&M.

I lived in Hoosick, NY for 6 years after WW II, about 100 yards from the Fitchburg Division tracks. Rode the Minute Man many times, even once in '52 when #6000 was assigned. Also rode between North Station and Ashland, NH several times, always in green open-vestibule coaches. The B&M (pre-McGinnis) was run by lots of friendly folks, who even let me operate a local freight tea kettle down the passing siding between Hoosick and Petersburg Jct one afternoon.

I don't remember the green open platform coaches but, I do remember them in maroon.

The coaches may well have been maroon. The last time I rode was in '53, and my memory has become iffy at best. However, Robert Willoughby Jones' book, Boston and Maine City & Shore has green open vestibule coaches photographed on the Marblehead and Gloucester Branches in the '40s and early '50s.

Your cars look great. I'm reluctant to bash cars, so I just bought some Athearn Overland B&M cars, which I'm very happy with, especially behind that sweet li'l Mogul shown above.

Found an Atlas model of B&M 315 in my local model railway shop the other day. Used. I'd been looking for something/anything in the way of a locomotive from an east coast line to visit Oklahoma. Nice looking SD40-2.

Pete, I think you mean GP40-2. I remember seeing those in Manchester NH when I was young.

    Jim,

Yes, you're right. A typing error on my part. Box does say GP40-2.
