I have been trying to get a conductor job with csx for a really long time now (over a year). I was accepted to UNF last may but then I was told that CSX cancelled the position and I would have to wait. Well CSX stopped using UNF for conductor training. So have no way to contact anyone reguarding employment. HR just says apply on line.

Well 10 positions just opened up where I live and I have applied for them. My status of my application shows 050-Route. I have been told that my application has been sent to a recruiter but that is all that I can get.

Does anyone know of anybody that I can contact. If nothing else just to make sure that they actually look at my resume. I have been waiting to get a job there for so long. I don't want it to pass me by. Any help would be great. I know that they do all of their training in Atlanta now. It might be done at the Tilford Yard, but I am not sure. Anyways thank you.

well the only thing that I can tell you would be to keep on top of what you are doing now. There is no one that you can really call for for info. Best thing that I know you can do is go to every hiring session that you can. As for the training center that you are refering to, it is at Atlanta in Tilford yard. But you have to be hired to get there. If there are any short lines near you, try them. Best of luck.

Thanks for the info stewarttrains98, I have already tried the local yard. They told me to contact HR. Bummer. Well I guess all that I can do is sit and wait now. I feel like I have tried everything that I can possibly do. The sad thing is that I bet there is nobody else applying for that job that has done what I have but it doesn't make any difference since I cannot talk to anyone. I am so bummed. Hopefully I will get a call anyways. Anyways thanks stewarttrains98.

Persist. Check back on your application in any way possible. Keep poking and prodding for contact with human beings.

    Good luck!

I would recommend you trying to get one with a short line in your area. You are much more likely to get one with one and get experience than just trying to jump on with CSX with no experience.

This is what I am doing right now, I just finished up my first week on the South Branch Valley Railroad.

hi there i see you are working for the south branch valley railroad. i almost applied for that job a couple years back. was just wondering how you apply to getting a job and how do you like working for them? i wasnt sure what kind of an operation this shortline was. ive worked for a few shortlines myself. none of them really paid any good money but i enjoyed the work. so how does the south branch pay? Oh and how much freight do they handle a year. i remember reading that they get unit grain trains . do they still have the chessie system engine? would love to hear from ya buddy.

    Hi dan,

I applied through the WV state jobs website. I've only been there a week, I enjoy it so far, good guys to work with. This is like most other shortlines the pay isn't spectacular but you are a state employee so there are really good benefits available and several holidays.

I dont have any particular numbers available, but they do run unit grains trains almost daily through the weeks, occasionally on saturdays, too. There is some non-unit freight, too, but not a lot.

Yes B&O / Chessie #6240 is alive and well, she got a new coat of paint a couple years back, still in chessie scheme. She ran a short train up to Green Spring on thursday afternoon.
