Just got off work, about 22 locomotives in the yard now. In cluding three CSX sd40-2's, they leasing or purchased? I don't know. They were 8111, 8051 and 8886. Handful ex-conrail SD50's, rest were more UP SD50's. More info later, I plan to railfan on Monday and/or Wednesday.

That might be good timing! By then, they should have power positioned, and some decent trains rolling. You'll start getting a good idea how they'll be handling service.

I ran into a local guy who was also a railfan, he told me that the A&O has plans to build a rather large fueling/sanding facility just north of here. Right now there are only about 35-40 locomotives online but another 35 is expected in the next week to 10 days.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, this is a rather large operation.

The Wye here in Buckhannon used to be only used for the local switcher to do switching and run around it's cars, as well as it's home base. Now there's a whole railroad sitting in the wye, until the planned facility is contructed.

I plan to railfan on Monday a bit, hopefully learn some more about operations and things.

Can't wait for the update [IMG] I doubt the CSX units are leased.... heck, they are so power short right now, they are leasing from everywhere! [IMG]

A boatload of SD50's are on the lease market right now. I know CR and UP dumped a bunch.

This has got to be one of the most interesting Developments in Shortlines in a long time. It makes me want to plan a trip to railfan it.

I don't know how I'll get my wife to agree to it though. The only experience she has in West Virginia is getting sick at an Arbys.

Harold......UPDATE: 4 AC's and the two SD40-2's are in fact leased. The AC's for traveling down the Pickens sub to pick up cars from the Beech Mountain Railroad. The SD50's done have radial trucks, therefore can't handle the light rail and sharp curves on that branch. (only 1 train a week anyways).

Supposed to be a handful of 4-axle's here in a couple weeks. Maybe from WATCO's other railroads.

Also, 8051 and 8886 have already been returned to CSX with the arrival of 4 more SD50's yesterday. I did spot 8338 today, though, so there is two running around for a short while.

YoHo....Sorry about her bad experience, but you guys are welcome here anytime. [IMG]

There are parts of the new A&O that seem like "model prototyping" instead of "prototype modeling."

The Appalachian & Ohio has existed for years as David Stewart's O-scale 2-rail layout, and even longer before that in HO. It is a primarily West Virginia coal-hauling road that loads coal with an operating flood loader and empties them with a Whiting Rotaside rotary.

David's web site is at: www.aorailroad.com

    Cheers!

That's a cool model RR! Maybe some day there will also be a real RR named the Virginian & Ohio?

    Welcome to trainboard, Bob.

Kinda funny that the portottype seems to be names from a model railroad.

CSX is still wanting to get rid of more of the old B&O West End from New Martinsville to Cumberland. I have heard nothing about Watco trying to get more. They have been digging in here pretty big, so I doubt they plan on expanding too much right now.

    Life does indeed imitate art.

As Bob said, the model A&O was a fine one to operate. It is recently departed, since Dave is moving. I can't wait to see the next incarnation. Anyway, the prototype A&O already has a paint scheme they can use - this is fun watching this develop.

    Any update on this operation??

In the mail today, I received the new issue of Diesel Era magazine (May/June issue). On page 54 is a picture of an ex-NS SD40 (still in black with the locos painted out) and lettered WAMX 4110. According to the caption, WAMX 4103-4114 are all ex-NS SD40's.

as far as I know no NS SD40's run around here.

Two more SD50's still in UP Yellow arrived from the Iowa Interstate marked as WAMX 5113 and 5106.

The CSX SD40-2's and the CEFX SD40-2 (45 carbody) were sent back a while ago.

The A&O is still having a lot of mechanical problems with the SD's since they, for the most part, have been beat to heck and back out west.

We'd be happy to send them an engine from out this way. The Watco operation here includes one ex-Chessie GP30. An excellent mosquito killer, as summer is coming. Belches smoke in wonderous clouds.

    LOL Boxcab.

Thge helper set from Burnsville, WV were mistaken for NS units because of the Coal dust and diesel exhaust soot was so heavy.

    Beeeeyuuuutiful Thangs! :D :D

Made the UP yellow really look nice.....and Black! They belch with the best of them (Alco's).

Can you get any photos of BAR 355? I am looking to have this GP in all its diffrent owner colors. It used to go by my house as PRSL 2004.

I'll see what I can do.

Also, there is a picture of 353 and 355, on Page two.

I'm planning on doing a little railfanning on Friday, so hopefully I can get a shot of 355. Those BAR Geep are on the move all the time, so it's hard to catch what you expect.
