Amtrak called me today to schedule an interview and "tests" I'll be calling her back tomorrow as I was out of house today. My question is, what should I bone up on for the test? Apptitude? Rules? Thanks for any advice you can give.
Don't know the answer to your question, but congratulations for getting this far are in order. Good luck the rest of the way.:w20z6q::w20z6q::w20z6q:
I dont know of any railroad that will question you about the rule book so dont worry about that. They want to see what you look like, how you react to their questions and why you want to work for a railroad. Just be straightforward with your answers, dont hem and haw, dont embellish your answers OR your work history. I told the story once on another board about my AMTRAK interview(in the late 80s). I was applying for a part-time reservation agents job. I was already a full time travel agent with a following and a big buck sales record. The panel that interviewed me was 2 women and a black man. One of the women asked my why I though I could do this job(remember I was a full time travel agent applying for a part-time reservations clerk job). I looked a her incredulously and blurted out that I am ALREADY doing the job!!!! Well I didn't get that job(Thank God!) but eventually wound up railroading with the BNSF. Just be honest and forthright, dont make any mention that you are a railfan. You can tell them that you like trains, that you like working with the public and you feel you can handle the challenge Break a leg!!! Charlie
Thanks for the advice, I did pass the tests and had an interview on this past monday (two mondays in a row) with the Assistand Suyperintendent of Road Operations. He and two others interviewed me and it was quite laid back believe it or not, they told me that I would hear back from them by a week from Friday either way. But 15 people for 3 positions is fairly low odds, however 10 more positions are coming up in Feb and March so I'll try again then if this one falls through.
Seattle to: Bellingham, Vancouver and Portland on the Amtrak Cascades Seattle to Spokane on the Empire Builders
Unfortuneatly I did not get accepted this time around, however they are hiring 10 more in Feb and March so hopefully I'll be accepted then.
Thank you both, I don't plan on giving up, and believe it or not I was not that disappointed, I guess since I told myself that there were 20+ folks for these 3 positions that someone had to be told no.
