This website lists all the current Union Pacific historical passenger cars that are still in service. http://www.up.com/aboutup/special_trains/historical_equipment/index.htm Phillip
river_eagle, Is it me or does that last shot show no rivets in the side of the tender? They show up clearly on the black centipede tender and in the other shots. I am just looking at the detail and the rivets are a big part. Rivet or not to rivet, that is the question? Cheers, James James
That last photo shows the tender as it was before the 2005 rebuild. You can see the transition here - http://wrrc.us/about/highlighted-projects/union-pacific-water-car-no-814/ Apparently the tender used to have some sort of outer jacket that concealed the rivets. So, rivets or no rivets would depend on which version you're designing (personally, I'd like to see the original version). -Mark
Well, prototypically speaking I want the pre-2005 version, but I would probably roll with either. If I rolled my own I would probably do one of each and just swap out the trucks. (or maybe floor and trucks?)
The original 8500 gas turbine version still has the insulation jacket and heater covers (round hatches along bottom, the bunker c fuel had to be kept hot to be thin enough for the turbine to burn) and were removed during the rebuild.
Ahah, that clears that up! The extra pictures will also help a lot, thanks. Right I think the best thing is to do both versions, as I am halfway through the new one so I will finish that first, sorry Mark . When I get to a good point I will post up some picks of the model. Cheers, James
Looking good Mark. Are you going to modify the Dome Lounge like they did in N Scale Railroader? Phillip
I don't think I need to, do I? The Kato dome-coach looks like a dead-on match for Challenger and Columbine, and those are the only two domes I need for my train. -Mark
Sounds good. Im going to model the Harriman 9004 Dome lounge. If your not going to use yours let me know if your interested in selling it. Your Howard Fogg and Art lockman cars look nice what did you use for the grills and extra window? Here is a picture of before and after that someone else modeled. Phillip
Thanks, Phillip. I used one of the utility windows from Tichy Train Group set #2526 for the Art Lockman car, and the grills from a Kato E8 shell I had laying around for the Howard Fogg car. $20 and my spare #9004 is all yours. PM me if you're interested. -Mark
