Anyone hear anything on what their latest diesel was gonna be? Here's a reference- http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:www.onerrave.com/site/archive/042200.html+Athearn+new+diesel&hl=en Also today i was putting together a new Dash 9 after i did the toothpaste/vasoline trick and i must say the trucks were quite noticably smoother. Athearn 3 axle power trucks could sure use some tighter tolerences though, took forever to get one of the trucks up to snuff. I guess this little trick gets a thumbs up! I was gonna repower the unit with an ALine motor/flywheels with a NWSL drivetrain components and couldn't figure out why the unit was running so poorly in the test configuration- turns out i got some flywheel cement in the moter when i glued the flywheels awhile back! A motor wasted... It runs but only smooth at high speeds. Looks like i'll have to be more careful...
Your guess is as good as mine, I haven't heard any or rumors or anything from my usual reliable sources. I'm mainly just hoping it's either an MP15/15AC or SD45T-2....now those are some modern diesels that are badly needed, and are right up Athearns alley(literally)! ------------------ Have A Nice Day!
I have yet to do the trick to my C44-9W. but I have done it to my SW1500 (needs motor adjustments now) SD40-2 and reaplyed it to my U30B ------------------ Theres no such thing as having to many coal hoppers or GP40-2 when you model Chessie System LONG LIVE THE KITTEN!!! LONG LIVE BIG BLUE!!! I looked at DCC... and stayed DC!
Hi, folks. I applied the method to an Athearn SW-? it runs very well. I will admit I reworked the electrical pickup a little, but the big improvement came from "seasoning" the drive train. thanx agin. Bobby ------------------
what is this method that everyboby is talking about? I have troubles with the bACHMANN ENGINS. ------------------ Appalachian & Atlantic Model Railroad "QUALITY at WORK with SAFTEY in MIND"
The method is to run the trucks with toothpaste in the gearboxes to get em nice and smooth and then after you clean the truck lube the gears with a little petroleum jelly(Vasoline)... I did the toothpaste on the Athearn Dash 9 for 15 minutes each direction and then lubed the gears. Athearn trucks come with no gear lube so... The unit will have smoother and quieter trucks.
