I've been looking for an atlas sd-7 in southern pacific for awhile now and have found one. It's painted in the orange safety stripe on the bottom including the fuel tank and has the silver fronts. I was wondering what run these were from atlas and more specifically if they had knuckle couplers or rapidos on this run.

That was from the 2003 run, they were equipped with knuckles from the factory.

Now on the quality side of things, how do they run and how easy is it to install a decoder?

Run well decoder installation requires undoing the screws and spreading the chassis to swap the boards.

I don't mind splitting the chassis, that's easy

I have one I use quite a bit for switching in my yard while I am doing testing. When I first got it, it ran rough, like some of the driveline components were out of alignment. Took it apart, put everything back together properly, and has been a great runner ever since with good pulling power for that style of locomotive. Digitrax makes a drop in decoder that fits fine, DN163A0. I like it so much I bought another one and just got a decoder for it, just need the time to get it switched over.
