Going have to get one of these Wens and do some testing. Was hoping to use it on Kato but maybe a hacksaw might be the way to go to keep cuts straight? Thank you...

I'm assuming you are talking about a decoder install. If so get a good jewelers saw ( Like the one here ). Spend a couple dollars more and get one where besides tensioning the blade on the top you can get it tighter with the front adjustment. A taught blade is what you need and I found that top only adjustment just doesn't do a good job.

I use the saw often on decoder installs where possible to cut the frame away as shown ( HERE ). Works really well and is faster than using the die grinder bit when you can use this method.

While waiting for a replacement, took GP7 out of box to see after 3 days if it would run. First time, light on but still no movement however hear a slight hum, pressed 2 fingers against both window sides and felt very slight motor vibration. Throttle to 0, Release loco, re-attach throttle. Bang, it starts running. Wow.. Ran gp around concentric ovals most forward and some backward and as long as throttle around 50%, but would hesitate at random places in aperiodic intervals, maybe 2-4x each complete cycle. As the engine was run, it seemed to hesitate less, almost to point on non. Loco noise disappears at about 1/2 throttle.

Decided to see the creep thru D Crossover, throttle down to 2/126, magnificent creep but very noisy, increased throttle to 1/2, loco hesitation substantial. but as it completes cycles around at 50%, hesitation seems to decline in frequency.

Throttle back to 2 to creep to D crossover again, outstanding but very noisy. Increased throttle to 40%, GP stops on straight track segment and dies. No movement only LED. Released, waited 10 min. Still no go.

Loco did not feel abnormally hot or warm. Going to wait a few hours to try again.. Any thoughts?

Are there any other sources for Bachmann N GP7 loco trucks besides manufacturer?
