There has been the odd comment on background perspective such as using an N gauge building as background to an HO layout. I have been experimenting with creating roadways and buildings where there aren't any, it just looks like they are there. It has been fun and I used it on a street in front of my Union Station in the city of Maberly on my M.A.T. layout. View a picture at

I would be interested in hearing of any successes you have had using perspective.
I have another area started and the picture is at

It sure makes you think but it is really fun to do.

Very interesting work with perspective. The only issue I see is hiding the transition from the real life to the backdrop. I've seen it done well using a slight rise in the road before the backdrop. There are some good examples in the Modeling Urban Scenery book too. My favorite example has to be Art Fahie's Niagra and Pearl Creek RR. Check out the his web page at http://members.aol.com/artfahie/backbench.html and look at the example below. See how he has forced the lines of the buildings to a vanishing point somewhere behind the layout? Awesome stuff!

That stuff looks great. The problem with back ground perspective is you can be good at it, or just plain stink (no offence, although I am sure none of ya stink [IMG]). I have seen soem stuff at Train shows where there was a clear differenece, like the west side of town was for midgets, and they didn't have the thing scaled. Not to say it doesn't have a good effect if done right. I have played with that for my own info-and have had moderate success, but I am sure I will use some on the layout under construction with my dad.

    Happy Railroading!!
