My apologies to those who've had trouble accessing TrainBoard. I have no idea why you haven't been able to register and get access to the information we've provided here.

Just as a reminder we've posted everything but a map to help you find us. Map Quest and GPS are todays tools that will lead you directly to our doorstep. If you are able to read this and need address's go back to post #39. There are three links or directives to previous postings that will do the job.

Drive defensively, Otoberfest is in full swing and....it's a boom for the ambulance services and toe trucks. Sigh!

Thanks, Rick for your hard work in keeping us all posted on the latest developments to this exciting event.

I've been busy straightening out my layout room, cleaning track, and figuring out how to make my layout videos on YouTube run continually.

Now I can say I'm ready for the crowds tomorrow!

I couldn't of managed this by myself. Thanks for your help, leadership and know how. To other members of the Bear Valley Model Railroaders and support team a big Thank-you. Special recognition to Sue and Steve Huether. I love it when a plan comes together.

We are planning a get together Sunday, after we all shut down, at 6:00 p.m., Supper, At Denny's. You are invited. Separate tickets, I can assure you. Grin!

    The post event report.

Just so you know. The turnout (proper use of the word) was anything but. Perhaps to many other things happening and going on, in Southern California.

I want to thank the three (did you miss that 3) visitors that showed up to share in the fun. They said someone handed them a flyer and that's how they learned about our Open House.

Several complaints from our own group of Bear Valley Model Railroaders, about not being able to get into TrainBoard, emphasizing without registering. Tried it myself on the mortuary computer and couldn't get in with my own password. Same thing occurred on Stubby's computer. It used to be you could be a visitor and get in to see everything but you couldn't post as in participate, until you registered. I know Ken and Charlie are looking into it. So, I don't know what to tell you.

We had over sixteen hundred hits here on TB., so thanks for tuning in. At least you got in on some of the fun. Was anyone watching to see me make a fool of myself? I did. I'll let you find it. A real side show.

But wait until you hear this: Then Steve, our contact person... his phone goes on the fritz. Then, One the three guys that did show-up. He comes in saying you need to provide more information. Well.... gosh, golly, gee whiz! I handed him a list of address's. Honestly, we had more fun on the round robin. I think that's what we will do next time and stop there. Like I said before, "Loads of fun to be had with the Bear Valley Model Railroaders".

Sigh! It is what it is.:(

We are closing up early and heading for Denny's. OH...WAIT...Stubby has another visitor.

Next time we will plan this for Halloween, at least we know we will get trick'r treaters.

Well, you have earned an "E" for great effort. That would certainly be equal to an A+ any place else.

    A parting shot.

The BVMR's got together and discussed the pro's and con's of how the event was advertised, the problems other model railroaders had accessing TB., the head count indicating a very sparse turn out. As in: No one from TrainBoard showed up and/or they wouldn't admit it. Most attendee's were the result of personal invitations and flyers. Close friends, neighbors and fellow associates. None (to the best of our knowledge) could gain access to and/or participate on the internet.

At the mortuary, I had two visitors. You've already heard about one of them. I enjoyed visiting with Danny, an avid Lionel and American Flyer enthusiast. He made my day as his interest in old Lionel, three rail track and the two rail American Flyer, with the older equipment operating on it. The layout was just what he wanted to see. It was a good visit that lasted just over two hours.

General consensus of the group, indicated we choose a bad weekend due to a high number of other rail fan and model railroad events occurring simultaneously.

Noted: All BVMR members, had fun planning this event and getting together as a group. We will do it again soon. It's not likely you will hear about it here...in quite the same way as we advertised the event...this time.

The best pictures and descriptions of the layout are out there for you to see. Thanks for checking in here and I hope you enjoyed the presentations, pictures and layout descriptions as much as I enjoyed sharing them.

The concludes this anecdotal, problem ridden post event report. That be all from me.

With mixed emotions. After spending the better part of this month preparing the O & S Rail Link for todays show uhh...errr...viewing. I had what will be my last day to make her shine, to share her with others allowing her to kick up her heels and let it all out. A layout that holds a lot of good and bad memories, for me. She was fun to plan, build and operate. I'm only to sorry it wasn't to Ivan's satisfaction. She is due for demolition, in the not so distant future. Maybe the new owner, will see her as a prize to be cherished, cared for and operated. I can only hope.

Now, NOW... I can get back to working on my N scale, itty-bitty railroad. Yes!

The problem with exclusively advertising on train board is, big as it is, it's not like it represents some large number of Southern Californians.

    Yoho,

I think you are right. Thanks for the shout out.

It was exclusive to TB because, only registered members of TB could access the advertising thread, follow-up posts and pictures in my album. Guests could not get in to visit the advertising thread and other accoutrement's. We advertised on three different MR websites. We linked flyers to all three websites and seriously...little to no visitation.

Edited add on: We are living in an age of computer generated communiques. Downside, there is a lot of model railroaders who are still living in the past and want nothing to do with a computer. They have no idea how much information they are missing out on and activities going on within reach of their mobility. Something, I can't fix. That's also true of various members in our BVMR's. Thus, perhaps the reason they brush off TB and the communiques I've shared here. As far as I know John Acosta and I are the only ones here in Big Bear Valley, that participate here on TB.

As far as future advertising, I don't know how we are going to go about it?

I do believe there was way to much competition out in good old Southern California. Had we of chosen a weekend with little or no planned model railroad activities, the turnout might have been different, as in better.

We even advertised on Bob C's., website where we felt we would get the most coverage. Do you see it? Disclaimer, Bob was busy with planning the events in Banning based on public attendance. He declined to sponsor us at first and was willing later on to include us as part of the Banning Festivities. Until members of our group found out it wasn't exclusive to model railroaders. He was kind enough to allow us to post on his website, which we appreciated and want to publicly thank him for.

Success can sometime be measured in small increments. We have acquired three new members to the Bear Valley Model Railroaders. Yes, we want to do this again, even if other's don't want to visit or share in the fun.

Look at all the fun we had.

Yes sir, it is, without a doubt.

Nice summation and I will end my remarks with.

Look at all the fun I had sharing this event with you. Yep! Not bad, not bad at all.

As the voice from the back seat queries, "Are we there yet?".

    Is it over?

    Yep!!!!!!!!

Yes, like BarstowRick says, "loads of fun".

Actually, we gained 4 new members. We had a last minute one come in!

And the member's dinner last night at Denny's was a nice way to round off the day!

    A glance back

    100_6209.jpg 000_0002.jpg 100_6237.jpg
First picture, say good bye to the O & S Rail Link, an O & S scale railroad. Second picture, you won't find trestles like this in the flat lands. Third picture, left to right, Owen Miller, working on the track prepping for the open house. Big Steve, sitting it out and Greg McGinnis, drooling all over everything. Darn we had to get a towel out and clean the locomotives, train cars and track. :teeth:

    Photo's courtesy of Rick Howland.

You missed out visiting us in Big Bear Valley. You didn't miss out on, a virtual layout tour courtesy of TB's cyber space. To continue the cyber tour and just in case you missed it the first time: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?151323-Steve-s-HO-Scale-Model-Railroad&highlight=

Spidge, a no show? Betting, you were busy helping your fellow Free-Mo N-Land Pacific club members, keep their doors open. I do hope your attendance was better then ours.

To the guys and gals that set-up and knocked down for the Banning's Centennial Festivities. I hope things went well for you.

A Big Bear post event glance back:

One thing that jumped up and I was surprised where it came from. Someone indicated, to a BVMR member, he said that when Bob C., posted that the layout tour (he was planning) was dropped... he thought it was our tour. He didn't open the post to see that John A. and I had responded to advise that our BVMR tour was still on. Nothing like confusion in the ranks.

The Bear Valley Model Railroaders, eight strong all have said we need to do this again. Collectively, we had a good time and we want to continue the positive camaraderie. Suggesting, that in the future we will plan a series of Round Robins.

You are always welcomed in Big Bear Valley. You can call or e-mail, for a private viewing. "Viewing,":eek:hboy: There I go sounding like a mortician again.

    Have fun!

Encourage, your friends and fellow model railroaders to learn how to use a computer! :frustrated:
