We had high winds on the 22nd, but that gave me an excuse to take a bit and wait at the east end for a super interesting mixed manifest to pull out. It had a 'Columbus and Greenville' boxcar, coil steel cars, well, just a lot of various cars. So, I am waiting for it and the Beach local returns under the control of a pair of SD40-2's! Then after waiting a bit longer, the manifest finally got the green light,
Love those SD40-2’s!!! Here in Pascagoula the CSX have a pair for the industrial area and they shuffle freight along the Mississippi gulf coast. Especially helping with the Mississippi Export two interchanges one in the downtown area and the other one in East Pascagoula. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Always love hearing older EMD sound! Unwrapped lumber is less commonly seen these days. When I see it, I wonder what or why. Perhaps just green or maybe even has not been planed.
It snowed a skiff today, which makes for a good excuse to chase a train!! So, off I went to catch this coal train. The outbound crew picked up the 9786 from the 'new' fuel station by the stockyard. A private fuel dealer from North Dakota comes over and tops them up right where they sit. So, as they pulled off the stockyard track, I headed out the door and got 2 videos of them pulling. The first is long due to speed restrictions pulling off of 2 track in the yard and then off the yard lead to the main, But the end of that one and the trailing C44 spools up loudly! Then as they roll by Hodges 20 miles later on there way up Beaver Hill, the growl goes on!
That old CN unit is a cool find! Ever notice if you get a chance to get a wedge shot of it, the frames have a very noticeable dip in the center, almost 2"!
Haven't seen the old wagon lately, but I will be watching! Cool story from way back in 1988 when I worked at M-K in Boise rebuilding loco's. A GP40 came in with a sagged frame, bad enough it had cut the tank bottom open! So that one got stripped of everything off the frame and then they flipped it over onto some jack stands. A LOT of Oxy-Acetylene was used with very large rosebud tips and the welders just cooked that empty frame til it was red, pulled down on it with large come-alongs to introduce a new camber to the frame. Needless to say, this was a multi day process! New Years eve morning, I caught this all ACe coal train entering town from the west end, And on the 29th, the Beach local is crossing over Allen St.
Tues evening I managed to find time and opportunity to catch a sunset train just west of town. The grain is running in on the mainline and will be changing crews and on their way. And since the service track is out of use, refueling is now done here or along the track closest to the camera on the right. (Out of view here.)
Ah. OK. If they used that track, they'd need to assign a union person to do the task. This bypasses the union.
Yup. And all the required personnel to supervise and maintain and stock the facility, etc. The Santa Fe's "better way." Am not a union man, but I also see the way they are running the district here into the ground. Minimal maintenance, antagonistic to their employees, lack of maintenance on the equipment. I guess time will tell.
