Greetings All, My first post on the board. I have a life long desire to work on the Railroad. Circumstances are now favorable for me to do so. What are your thoughts and experience on how old is too old from a BNSF (or other RR) realistic hiring perspective? Thanks! bowmcsx
My brother in law did it in his mid 40s from a completely unrelated field. I know another fellow who was turned down on ostensibly medical grounds (diabetes that ran in his family and was clearly not from metabolic syndrome) in his late 50s for a shop position. I would think they'd be more tight on medical on conductors and engineers as they're more likely to be far from medical help.
I was 52 y/o when I began conductor training in Overland Park. I celebrated my 53rd birthday during training. Dont give up hope! Charlie
There are plenty of older trainees out on the BNSF. The oldest in my class that just graduated was 52ish. You'll get through it just like anyone else. Good luck! S
Just going through the hiring process at the tender age of 53. I have finished all my medical and physical strength, just waiting on the magic email stating I have passed all that and a final offer....(fingers crossed, knock on wood, etc)
