I had an all GP60 consist the other night on a hot Z train and before I got done cursing Corwith for this "mistake" I realized this was the "superfleet" power and it ran like it. Was this the "gearing" I don't know but an all consist of small Geep 60's suddenly made sense. I was pissed at first and then wished I had all GP-60s on any train. Leave it to a Mike Haverty to know what power to buy and not some power desk....GE SUCKS!
IIRC, GP60's could be geared 72 or 70:17. Much different than the 62:15 gearing of say, a 'Deuce. (SD40-2) Less pulling power, but higher speeds. You get apic of the consist? A solid '60 lashup is certainly rare where I'm from..
Don, an all GP60 consist, wish I could have seen that, probably not wearing their original dress though. Interesting, I always thought the employee's complained about the GP60's, bad ride hard to see the controls in the cab in certain light, ect. As modelers it is always interesting to hear the real world feed back on the equipment we like. I remember talking to an old hand once about the famous Alco RS-3. As modelers we revere it, but this old engineer hated them! He said he would curse a blue streak when he was assigned to one, he rather would have the GP-9.
Gee, you should come out east. NS still runs solid sets of GP60's (many times) on the Intermodals trains 213 & 214. Harold
Thanks for the photo link SD75I. That is one good looking unit. I wonder if the orange is different or if it's just the photo color? Either way, it looks cool.
The SD 70 ACes are supposed to start arriving within a few days from now. They are going to occupy the 9300 series numbers. At last count, at least 70 were to be delivered.
That's one BIG ACe!! NICE.... I wonder what it would look like, mixed in with MRL's ACez... I'll just have to go to Mullan to ind out, I guess! I wouldn't figure MRL's newest units straying from home rails.
I believe that this first delivery is to be 70 units. The others are "option" units to be delivered later on "down the road".
That was a great shot I can hardly wait until I catch one of those bad boys running down the joint line. Steve
The 9370, 71, 72, 73, 74, 78, and 85 have been delivered. They are assigned to Alliance NE. [ March 30, 2006, 07:44 PM: Message edited by: doofus ]
Hemi, maybe BNSF will run a few up the Moffet and some good shots are to be had around there also. Well if they are assigned to Alliance then they should be making their way south some time soon cant wait. Hope the sun is out when they head through Denver. Steve
I can give you a few pointers... This time of year, the bulk of upper South Boulder Canyon is in deep shadow, but since summer's coming, that will be better. South Draw is always good, and easy to get to, if you have a high-clearance truck. That road into South Draw is a challenge even for Alaska GP49's TRD Tacoma... All year long, Tunnel 1-8 are excellent for morning shots. I won't spam this topic, but if you wanna get Moffat shots, I can help. BNSF colors always look good on the old D&RGW.
just found these on another site, might interest you all http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=139455
