Wow.. now that's a power lashup. I'm starting to see the new GEVO units in swoosh dress down here at the power plant in Festus, MO. I wonder how long before we see the Aces?
Here's a couple more pictures at: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=139457 http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=335705
More great pics. Can't wait to catch one of those. Maybe some will make it east on coal trains. May head over toward Birming ham late next week and check out the BNSF yard and a power plant to see if I get lucky. It has worked with the GEVO's in the new scheme.
What sucks is that unit 9386, the second unit in the "railpictures.net" photos, has already had engine problems and is dead. This was on their first run. I doubt this, but hopefully this doesn't cause BNSF to stop buying EMD's. Sean
Great pictures guys!!! Makes me want to head to Crawford Hill over Memorial Day weekend! Great place with LOTS of trains if you haven't already been there.
I haven't seen any over the hill yet, but i have heard that there have been some around. Waiting to get to see my first one. Adam
Now, don't get me wrong I do like GM engines but I have always been partial to GE. GM on this one finally got some things done right. The radiator flare, which GE has been doing for around 20 years now, looks great. From the cab back it is a wonderful looking engine, but man that cab kills it. An old Dudley Moore film pops into mind. "Crazy People". The one where they were in the nut house and trying to come up with advertising slogans. So, in their line of writing here is my take on it: "GM, boxey but good." (reference to the Volvo ad they did in the movie). "GE, if you want a ******* from a beautiful woman, buy GE!" (refrence to the the Porsche ad).
The cab may look "odd", but it does give better foreward visibility. The doorway is designed for easier access. Just look at some of the doors on older locomotives!
Very nice shot! I had every intention to make it to Crawford while I was in Cheyenne.. never did. *kick*
they have been through Denver. I got a couple of shots last Friday just need to clean one up a little and then post. I like them and they sound great.
Steve, I'm looking forward to it!!!! Until I can get out to see BNSF's ACez, I'll have to deal with seeing Merle's--Montana Rail Link!
Hmm..guess I'll have to head down to Saginaw to catch the coalies coming from Wyoming on the C&S/FW&D. It crosses the line thru Oklahoma as well as the ex-Rock ISland and ex-MKT Choctaw Sub (both UP). Great place to railfan, and bum-free. It'll be the closest I'll get to finding these new "Big Aces" in action. BTW, orange & black- my old high school and college colors. Looks better that the Tyco colors in the H2 scheme.
