BNSF to test LNG

BNSF Railway Co., the largest railroad in the U.S. and a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, will begin testing liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a locomotive fuel.

Wow, 50% saving over diesel fuels ....

 

They've been working on the locos for months. They're just starting the actual tests.

 

yep, the BN part of BNSF did a pair of SD40-2's and a GP9(IIRC not sure though.)

 

Never heard of a GP9 being converted. But know for sure that 2 SD 40-2s were done. My Dad has a picture of at one of them at CEECO while being built. I want to say it was #### 7891, but not sure about that.

it'd be a pretty awesome modeling project, get a shapeway made trailer, I have a spare 40' flat I could use a GP9 and a good building roject.
