This week I decided I needed a small switcher to work some textile mills on my layout. I really like the Broadway Limited Plymouth diesel but, alas I cannot find any and the last post on the BL website appears to be 2014.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I guess I can just keep watching Ebay for one to come up for bid.

Are you looking specifically for the BLI model? Walthers produces the Plymouth ML-8, which is a two axle version. If you just want a Plymouth, looking for both might bring up different options.

If you are into kits, there is the Jordan Mack kit. It comes unpowered, but there is a thread in the Model Railroader forum on how to modify it for a motor.

I’m not sure the time period you are modeling, so I’m just throwing some ideas out there. If you are modeling modern, there is the Trackmobile too.

There is one on the auction site.

If it's an older model the only way to get it is off of the web.

To all - my apologies I just found out I am not supposed seek out sales on the board.
I mainly want the BL 6 wheel Plymouth and I was just trying to find out if it was still in production

Asking about it isn’t against the rules, you’re fine there, but publicly reviewing or discussing retailers is usually frowned upon. Most manufacturers these days produce in batches that may be years apart, so once a store gets their shipment, they are sold out until they are made again. Luckily BLI is known to do reruns. Some locomotives have been around since their old Blue Line series, and the USRA locomotives are pretty regular too, so if you want to buy direct from them, you have to just wait it out. I have seen some sites that still have the model, mostly the undecorated or basic color ones, so you just have to search it up.

Many thanks - I am not a fan of the 4-wheel Plymouth however I do like the GE44Ton Switcher which I think will be a good substitute. My area of textile mills has a slight grade so being "realistic" a 4 wheel Plymouth might struggle with a couple of loaded hoppers or several box cars.

Just out of curiosity, I checked online and found numerous used Bachmann 44 tonners available at a wide range of prices. Might be worth a look.

    Tom-

I think that's the route I will take. When I was a little guy back in the early 50's my grandparents lived next to a small shortline in Ware Shoals, SC. There was a textile mill there and they had a GE44 Ton Diesel that took box cars, coal hoppers, and an occasional tank car out to a junction with the Southern and Piedmont & Northern about 7 miles away. My Grandfather was fishing buddies with the President of the Railroad so needless to say I enjoyed many a cab ride up into my teens - I have loved trains ever since.

I thought BLI had rerun the Plymouth more recently than 2014...

Also worth keeping an eye on their factory outlet for refurbished items, sometimes older runs too, at discount prices.
