Well I finished another small section of the layout. Here is the corner with my planes fire and rescue diorama I started last year. I finally was able to finish it and the final version I gotta say Is impressive. I always wanted an airfield on my layout. Now I have one.
Looking good Kevin! I’m glad we finally get to see that lookout tower in operation!lol Good to see ‘ol Dusty is up on his STOL charaistics!!! Very nice buddy!
Ok guys, I’m working on a crossing. These grade crossing pieces are supposed to be cement. So which color? Light or dark?
From what I have seen, concrete tends to get lighter from weathering. Except where something can stain it.
Hmm, interesting. My daughter likes the darker version better. I am still up in the air my self. When done these will have a brown outline.
The one on the right. You can also add some staining with a black wash. Especially at the center of the roadway. The one on the left would be good if you were trying to make it look like an older rubber mat type crossing.
Looks good Kevin. Those crossing inserts are made for tangent track and one of yours is on a curve, you may need to trim them to accommodate the flange-ways of locos and cars, they look a little tight to me in a few places. An old long since gone friend of mine used short pieces of a hacksaw blade, glued to a small piece of wood for clearance and clearing road crossings. I still have a couple of his hacksaw tools, next time you are over I will show you.
The crossing pieces are BLMA parts. The curve ones are two separate pieces not glued together. I ran a short ore car over it with no issues. I will attempt a longer car and see what happens.
I have at least 6 of those BLMA crossing kits on this MRR, very familiar with them. Glad they are working for you.
I took and cut a couple of the pieces to make three lengths instead of the four. By not hooking two of the lengths together helped me get around the slight curve I have there. I need possibly two to three more kits. I have one and a 1/4 right now. Also some wooden kits.
The next area is starting to look like something. A scrap yard and team track. I made a mock up of the ramp to give me an idea what the team track will look like. Just waiting for the glue to dry. I have some sculptamold I’m going to try out to make the ground a little level.
I am very thankful for trainboard right now. Last fall my laptop crashed taking with it my layout designs. I am very grateful that I preserved them here.
Been a great building season. I’ve have come a long way the last 6 -8 months. Now I have. Small city surrounding my roundhouse. Now to lay track for the roundhouse/museum area. Right now I am leaning toward an abandoned industry track next to the roundhouse museum section being utilized by the museum.
