Some people are wanting other paint manufacturers to adapt to the model train market. I doubt that is going to happen. Will Vallejo make boxcar red? I doubt it. They do make something that can be used for boxcar red? Yes they do. Join one of the military forums and ask questions. This whole Testors/Floquil thing is an opportunity for modelers to expand their knowledge and find new products and sources. That will happen for the guys that look around. Will Walther's be innovative and introduce new lines to their offering? Think about it. Have they supported N Scale? Did Walther's buy Life Like and essentially kill the N Scale part? Did RPM buy Testor's and kill the model railroad paint? Is everyone as mad at Walther's as they are at RPM/Testor's? Pick up a copy of Fine Scale Modeler. It has all kinds of ads for companies that sell paint and other supplies that model railroaders can use. I'm trying to think "Outside the Box" and expand my modeling horizons.
Do Walthers choose which manufacturers they carry or do the manufacturers approach Walthers to distribute their products? If the former Walthers would be more likely to stock paint back in the days when they had their own line of rollingstock kits and decals, if the latter I'll bet most manufacturers of non model railroad paint have never even heard of Walthers. On a personal note Tru-Color Paints have billed my Paypal account for some paint for a couple of projects myself and a couple of club members have had on hold for a while. Now to see if USPS and Australia Post will get it here. The postage for 10x2oz & 6x1oz bottles was $28.50.

Well, I dont know about paints, but I have heard that Walthers is very strict on their standards as to who/what/when products they do carry. Remember Walthers is a distributor. When Walthers gets wind of a product that they want to carry, the mfg MUST supply Walthers with the amount of product AND keep up with Walthers demand. I dont know for sure, but I have also heard that Walthers sets the MSRP price also.
Don't do much painting myself, but looks like Tru Color has a real good selection, 250 some colors. Probably everything I'll ever need. They keep telling us change is good..:closedmouth: Now if my LHS starts carrying then, I'll be all set.....MIke

An incremental data point: Easy Lift Off has apparently been rebranded to Testors, although the can I saw at a local craft and hobby shop also had the other brand names: Polly Scale, Floquil and Pactra (and one other that I don't recall- probably Model Master) listed in a smaller size astride the larger Testors logo. My assumption from this is that ELO (the paint remover, not the band) will remain in the Testors lineup.
So, you think ELO has been rebranded to Testor's, "Do Ya"? I guess at least the new paints won't "Turn to Stone" in the can. "I cant get it it out of my head" that Testors would drop these mainstays of the Model Railroading hobby. I keep thinking "Don't bring me down" like an "Evil Woman" ! Not to fret though, "Mr Blue sky" may yet rear his head via some "Strange Magic", because we all know that model railroading is a "Livin Thing" , "What a terrible thing to lose". Maybe a "Sweet Talkin Woman" could get Testors on the "Telephone Line" and talk some sense into them! I have a free internet doughnut for the first person that gets this.....

Not really, was just sitting here eating a sandwich while the dust clears from the drywall sanding in my train room. Should be painting it in a day or two. Yes, donut is yours, but "Do Ya" have a CD that's autographed by the original members of ELO that aren't Jeff Lynne? I got their signatures at the great House of Guitars here in the Rochester area (which as far as I know does not carry any brands of RPM paint at all) was during the "ELO II" years... that is, the band that re-formed without Lynne, not the second album released by the band with Lynne. I know, I know, way off-topic... so back on topic: The point was made "on another network" with respect to Micro-Scale's list of alternative paints that Scalecoat I and II are not anywhere on that list.
I posted that topic on the other thread here on this and received no comments as to why it wasn't included. I stopped using it back when all the LHS started drying up around here and I just could not find it. The first piece of rolling stock and locomotive I ever painted was done with Scalecoat and I always liked the paint so it has been around for a long time. In fact the paint line is probably older than some of the folks on this board. The Scalecoat II is a little newer and I don't remember ever using it but I do notice it is formulated for plastic. Now that I found it is available direct from the source that is how I will go for my next batch and I will give the Scalecoat II a try first. As I set and wait for paint to dry I reflect back a little and recollect that the supply of Floquil and PolyScale started drying up around here at the few remaining places I could find RR colors about a year or a little more ago. So I don't think the decision is something that just came about recently but has been planned for awhile. Cut back the production until the retailers give up and quit ordering and stocking it, then cite poor demand and sales, and kill the brand.
I think you will find the reason Scalecoat, or Tru-Color, isn't shown on the color conversion chart is that they don't need to be because they already make RR colors. I for one don't need a conversion chart to tell me that the nearest color in the Scalecoat range to Floquil UP Harbor Mist Gray is, wait for it, UP Harbor Mist Gray.
More of a informational tool than a conversion chart purpose. There are paint brands on that list that I have never used much less heard of and I am sure that there are others out there who also haven't heard of or aware of the Scalecoat line of products. Rather than having to search through a big selection for something called dunklehiemer forest mist I can simply opt to get a bottle of Pullman Green or a bottle of Brunswick Green that is in a railroad color selection.
