There is a story behind this photo. Was down in the Helper, Utah area chasing the remaining DRGW Tunnel Motors up and the hill. I was at Wash, mile post 611.3 watching a work train, two Tunnel Motors, and waiting for the daily Dirt Train to depart Helper and head to Columbia Junction. Got word on the scanner the MDVRO was due soon. I was with a friend from Colorado Sorings, CO and a friend of his from CA. The MDVRO came by with two units and a fairly long train. Got some shots of the power and commented to my friend "Don't forget the caboose" joking of course. About that time, guess what came around the corner? No, it was not on the end. Got a couple shots, chased the Dirt Train to Columbia Junction for more shots. About that time came word on the scanner about help for the MDVRO up the hill. Darn, here we are 25 miles east of Helper and they are putting help on. Mad dash west to catch it. Finally caught up with it at Lynn, mile post 632.0, involved in a drag race with a Utah RY coal train. Then ran west to Kyune, mile post 638.9. The MDVRO was cutting out the two Tunnel Motors used for help. that is where I got the final shot at the caboose. It stopped in just the right place.

Neat pic, slimjim....I didn't know UP still had hacks like that left. Funny you mention you were with a friend from Colorado Springs and a friend of his from California. A co-worker and friend of mine left a couple of days ago for a vacation to Colorado/Utah, to meet up with a friend of his from Colorado Springs, and to chase down the Grande...I wonder if we're talking about the same people, or just coincidence? Great picture Jim, why is the caboose green? Did UP use that colour scheme. I wouldn't mind seeing some of those tunnel motor pictures?

    Colonel,

The UP uses the puke green for there MOW cars. Needless to say, it got my attention when I first saw it. Tunnel Motors on the D&RGW forum with more to come [IMG].

    Hey Charlie,

I would have never guessed you were a caboose fan [IMG].
