If you're a CN/IC fan like me. Then one of the best places to railfan the Canadian National is the Johnston Yards. It was built in the early 1900's as Illinois Central's Nonconnah Yards. until the late 1960's it was renamed Johnston Yards in honor of the late IC President Wayne A. Johnston (1897-1967). Today The Johnston Yards has all kinds of freight trains coming in and out. If you're planning to railfan in Memphis and if you choose to railfan the Canadian National in Memphis, Best bet is to try the Johnston Yards. (You have to ask permission to take photos on their property and try not do anything silly, or reckless.). If You're coming from Arkansas, Turn on I-55 until you get to the Horn Lake Road Exit and the You'll cross the bridge over Johnston Yards, Turn right on Peebles St, Turn right on old Horn Lake Rd and you're at the Yars and Engine Terminal. Coming From Mississippi (If You're railfanning the Yazoo District.) keep Hwy. 61 straight to Peebles St, Turn right on old Horn Lake Rd and you're there. There is a map of the location (http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps2.py?P...89-6381&addr=2921+Horn+Lake+Rd&csz=Memphis+TN) And one other thing. Be Safe over there.
