Also finished painting bay window caboose #79061. Similar to the Nickel Plate style, but in brown. Still needs lettering. I have 5 more cabeese that needs same treatment.

I really enjoy reading about how people come up with names for their Railroads. Thank you for sharing.

CC&CI SD35 #2806 seen in Ravenswood idling on the main awaiting the arrival of an Eastbound Empty. March 24, 1968.

Not a lot of progress to report until the weather breaks and building construction gets underway!

I was looking at your space. It seems a shame to waste so much space on spirals. I keep hinting to the HO crowd that if you think outside the box, in this case the house, you can have modeled detailed sections AND long mainlines.

    Hint hint again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5jSTPl76rE

Looks like my Norfolk, Carolina, And Danville has some competition.

Does the CC&CI come close to Staunton? The one of the NC&D's subsidiaries has a terminus there. I'd love to be interchange partners (Even though My railroad won't exist for another 20 years :p)

Close, it comes across through Stuarts Draft and turns north and runs along US 220 and then back westward, paralleling US33 across WV.

    Is that SD35 a ex-SAL unit?

My wife had been suggesting that I change scales due to my growing frustration with trying to build an HO layout in a closet. I am beginning to sell off most of my HO collection and start demolition. For those of you who would like to follow the re-formation and construction of the CC&CI, here is the new build thread in the N Scale forum.

The industries in Stuarts Draft support a variety of car types. Hershey gets boxcars, tank cars and covered hoppers. The siding plant gets plastic pellets in covered hoppers.

I haven't updated this thread in a good while. I'll summarize what has been going on over the last 4 months.

I suffered a scale change crisis at the end of April, sold 30 or so HO freight cars and locomotives and bought around the same number in N scale. Anyhow, for various reasons, I ended up sticking with HO.

As the thread started with, the original layout was dysfunctional in numerous ways. All three levels of bench work were removed, the one level containing "Ravenswood" was kept and relocated to the top level.

The new benchwork is free standing with exception of a couple wood braces and drywall screws to provide extra rigidity. The layout is actually on top of storage shelves constructed from 1x4's and 12" hollow-core closet doors. (Future benchwork on a future layout in a future house).

The idea that less is more has definitely proven itself true in my case.

    More commentary forthcoming...

I wondered what was happening, with your various FS ads. Will you have a track plan to share for this current version?

... Continued. With the rebuilding of the layout, I also built a 24"x46" work area with two supply drawers and storage for projects and kits. Best workbench I've had yet.

Over the last month, I've installed a pair of #6 turnouts for on the salvaged section of layout. Also, painted backdrop, laid cork on the new end module and set up the NCE PowerCab.

I have a track plan, but it is on a laptop at work. Ill try to get that posted tomorrow, as well as pictures.

Reminded myself that I already had the track plan uploaded to RI. Tracks shown in black/White are existing track, colored are additions to the existing section. I am planning on using a cassette system at the bottom along the wall to allow the use of different cars as needed.

So far everything seems like it will fit, I have laid out the curved switches on the main track (green) and installed the roadbed a month ago. I haven't decided on what to do with the "Old Yard Tracks" area yet, looks like I'm going to keep the two hand-laid #5 turnouts in place, but re-align the two stub tracks and fit an industry in that area. I have to be careful with that, as I don't want to make access to the crossover in front of LK Valley Metals difficult, that crossover is critical to the plan working.

A&P Tea Co. building will be a tight fit, I need to make some cardboard mock ups. I'll have to modify the Walther's Champion Packing kit to fit, but it is a matter of how much do I have to do to make it work.

This is an old (month or so) shot of placing the cork road bed. I had placed all of the curved switches together and laid out the curve on the next section before traced them for roadbed placement. I didn't pay attention to my benchwork construction and ended up having to place the surface of the new section about 1/4" higher than the surface of the old section. Obviously to make the road bed consistence I had to carve down 1/4" to make everything line up. When the road bed dried, I sanded humps smooth with a palm sander.

I have since Painted the back drop, constructed a mountain in the corner in the background and added roadbed for the third track.

Not a great shot, I need to improve the lighting in the room as well as play with my camera's aperature settings. This is a familiar scene from the salvaged section that was moved to the top of the new shelving. This also shows the newly-painted backdrop and the more densely planted trees in the background.

The Boxcar is an Accurail 40' Double Door boxcar painted, lettered and weathered for a friend's railroad.

Finally "installed" the mountain on the layout. If you look on the most recently posted track plan, thus area is in the far right side in a corner.

At this location, the north leg of the eye serves a coal truck dump and possibly a team track. There is an East leg of the eye on the layout but neither leg physically connect. They do in theory, but the ends of the tracks will be hidden under an overhead railroad bridge and trees, maybe mirrors too.

That upper track may end up being the main track some day on a larger layout.

I have also been enjoying the progress shots. I'd love to see a wide shot of the railway room. Or some shots of each section of the layout.

    Keep the photos coming. :)

Oh the whole room is such a mess right now. I'm out of town for weekend, but Ill pin up a skirt over the storage below the layout and get a picture next week if I remember.

    Thanks for reading!
