What I showed in my original topic was only half the circus train. The living quarters for the performers and roustabouts were left on sidings about 8 miles away in a neighboring town. More than 60 cars (called "coaches") were split between two 3300 foot sidings. Most of the cars are the homes for individual families, although there were a few "dorm" cars for single persons, and also a few support cars for generators, maintenance, etc. This is one family's home. I was told that these cars had been purchased by the Circus 5-10 years ago, hence the "RBBX" reporting marks. Every car was then totally re-furbished to modern standards as living quarters, including Head-End-Power connections from the on-board generator(s). The living quarters are the same as you would expect in middle-income houses, including wall-to-wall carpeting, modern kitchens, full bathrooms, etc. Well, maybe more like a very fancy 85' mobile(!) home. I have no idea where the cars originated, but a few of them looked like SP heritage. There appeared to be about a 2:1 mix of 2-axle and 3-axle trucks throughout the cars. When I saw these cars, it became obvious why the train needed 8400 HP on the head-end. What with 60+ coaches, 4 animal cars, and about 40 equipment cars, all between 65 and 85 feet long, that becomes quite a load. [ 22 June 2002, 14:51: Message edited by: Hank Coolidge ]
