I have a poor photo of SD40-3 #5945. It has the large CN noodle, but has GTW just below the number. This unit is on CN train #308 at Cobourg on 2005/02/18 behind CN unit 2423 leading a 99 car consist. Has anyone seen this colour grey before?
Milne, This unit is not a lone wolf. I have seen photos of other units painted like this. However, I do not know the heritage of these units. Maybe someone else can tell us.
I really like that locomotive, very nice neat scheme. Would make a good model and create a few comments at shows
I'm betting it's got something to do with keeping tabs on equipment, post-merger, much like CSX and NS did with Conrail stuff, sublettering it for PRR, or NYC...
Formerly an LMS lease unit # 732 , still on lease but numbered into the Dash 8 number series because it's a Dash 8 ! There are 12 of them numbered 2455-2466.
Caught one a few days ago at Dorval, Qué. CN 5951 lettered GTW, eastbound to Montréal. See it in page 3 of my album at: http://www.railimages.com/gallery/pierrelacombe
Train #369 at Belleville Ontario, 2005/02/28 CN 2413 (Dash8-40CM), CN/WC 6907 & 6922 (SD40-3). CN has 50 of these listed, but we don't see them very often in this area.
CN (GTW) #5942 (SD40-3) on train 305 at Cobourg, Ontario. 2005-03-22 This unit has the yellow stripping, something I don't see very often.
