Does anyone know of any program that can be downloaded that will generate switchlists? I have tried Ship-it but was not able to use it. I am a novice when it comes to the computer. I may be asking for something that don't exist but what I would like to do is to input my industries, my freight cars, train info and hit print an then go and do some switching. I have 9 industries on the main and 3 on the branchline. I also have 2 staging tracks. Right now I am using car cards and waybills but would like to try something else.

    Thanks for any help given

Hey Lenny, I haven't personally tried these but did do a pretty thorough search on the subject about 6 months ago to see what was available for my future layout. This site has the best list of useful links.

There is one out there called RailOp, but my neighbor has it and says that it's kinda buggy. I am personally developing a program which I am hoping I can release by the end of the year which will allow the user to input their towns, industries, rolling stock, engines, etc and will create random lists based off of that info. I am still trying to decide a few things such as should the locos be randomly assigned, or should I have them be a user selected option? Or should I allow for mixing of rolling stock with industries or keep it as certain types of cars only at certain industries? My neighbor is helping me smooth things out and I will most likely be posting a thread about this project once it is a little more developed.

Try the JMRI software. They have added an operations module. The price is right. FREE! It will take some work to get it up and running.
