In looking at the AM GP9/18, and their GP35, there is quite a gap in the pilots. I'm sure that this is allowance for the AF style couplers.

In smaller scales, Kadee has conversion kits to fill gaps in pilots. I'm thinking that in S scale, I'd need to fill this using styrene?

Also, I was browsing last week, and saw a discussion. I failed to bookmark it. It was concerning the Kadee #802. There was also mention of the Kadee #5. Isn't this an HO coupler? Are S scalers actually using an HO coupler? Is the 802 out of proportion? I'm wondering why the #5 was discussed in relation to S?

The Kadee 805 coupler in S is the same as the On3 coupler. It is a bit oversized but a good performer on the layout. The HO number 5 is a bit small and before Kadee offered any coupler in S or On3 that was the way to go. Some people took the small trip wire off and added a larger, or longer one to the #5 and used them. I have used both and there are no problems coupling them. Since I don't use uncoupling magnets I don't worry about the trip wire on the couplers.

As to AM's pilot holes for their engines, my versions have body mounted couplers and I didn't think the hole was too big. I wonder if there has been a design change? I will have to look into that. I think my next AM purchase was going to be their Baldwin S-12 to paint in Sierra Railroad colors. And unfortunately Kadee does not offer a pilot filling plug for S like they did in N scale.

    Hi Greg-

Thanks for bringing me up to speed on this. Looks like I was possibly reading a discussion that was more historical in it's perspective.

Also left you a question on the previous thread..

    :D
