On the cover of Trains June 98 this unit is pictured, my question is; What is the thin rod sticking up from the end handrail stanchion in front of the 8? Is this part of the unit or a defect in the photo? Thanks Robert
Sorry, I don't have that issue of Trains... I looked at other pictures, including this one of # 218 http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/photos/CW44AC/0218CSX-bc.jpg but don't see what you are talking about. Not sure if I have that issue, I will have a look. But I cannot see anything on photos of other locomotives of this type. ------------------ Alan The perfect combination - BNSF and N Scale! www.ac-models.com Andersley Western Railroad Alan's American Gallery
Here is a scan of the cover, not sure how well it will show up. After looking closer at the pic, the item in question looks like an antenna or similar, about 1/2" dia. Robert http://hometown.aol.com/georgiasysrr/myhomepage/index.html
It looks like one of those old, long CB antennas from the 70's! Seriously, unless it is some kind of clearance checker, it probably is an antenna. Maybe it is a homemade Locotrol for mid-train helpers or some kind of transmitter (an F-O-T device) Chessie ------------------ Harold Hodnett Fan of NS, CSX, and their predecessors! It looks like it's almost just wrapped around the handrail... On the magazine it looks to be bent around the handrail and welded to the stanchion. Robert
Looks like a fishing rod to me. Pretty handy on those days when you're put in the "Hole" for hours and you're along a River or local Creek! ------------------ BNSF RAILFAN-TO-THE-MAX! Brent Tidaback, Member #234 and a N-Scaler to boot!
