Don't expect to see one unless there is maintenance work being done in your area. The numbers are are 2474-2499. They are being painted in Yn3, which disappoints me. I was hoping they'd have some form of maintenance of way colors. Darn, I miss the Pumpkins!

I looked this up.... all of CSX's SD50's (including ex-CR units) were delivered between 1983-1985.

I was disappointed this week... I heard the dispatcher talking to a work train (local). He was giving him clearance to come in the yard and I was hoping that he'd have an SD50-2 on the lead. No dice... it was a B36-7 :(

IIRC, all CSX B30-7's, B36-7's, and their one C30-7 are demoted to MOW service. However, most B30-7's are gone, one C30-7 is left, several B36-7's are gone. There's also the occasional GP38-2 or 40-2. All C36-7's are gone.

That's too bad about the old GE units... I still see a bunch of GP40-2's and GP38-2's... I wonder how many of each are left? I know CSX had the largest roster of GP40-2's.

I just saw one of the older GEs leading Q209 (auto parts & racks) out of Walbridge to Chicago. Forgot the number already, though.

I would expect to see CSX keep their GP38 and 40-2's for a long time. There are no "new" 4 axle units on the market except for the GP20D's, and they aren't entirely new, themselves. Solid, reliable EMD products....they'll probably lats longer in Class I service than the first generation Geeps ever did.

Recently saw one of the sd50-2's in the 2400 number series. It was on a ballast train. However, I also saw two 8600 series units labeled as sd50-2's also. Will post some pics of this as soon as I get a chance.

I just found more information on a series in the 8600's, all the same as the 2400-series.

    Guys,

Just spotted CSX SD50-2 2479 in Erwin yard, still in CR-Q paint. It was coupled from the front to four bethgons and the back a coal hopper. It wasn't moving, but was idling.

So I guess they aren't necessarily getting repainted....

    Harold,

I guess not, at least not immediately. Make me wonder why the one I photographed was freshly painted. There have been two or three more photos of SD50-2's surface, and none have had the fresh paint.

Nice catch, Matt! I saw another SD50 today, but still have not seen any SD50-2's :( Oh well!

That's strange, Harold, because I couldn't catch a standard SD50 if I tried, at least around here. But, the SD50-2's seem to follow me around. Heh..

I caught my first one today! It was # 2489, still in CR paint. I'll try and get a photo posted.

    I caught a pair today: # 2499 (YN2) leading # 8640 (YN2). The 8640 had a black stencil "-2" applied behind the SD50 marking on the cab.

I am guessing that the rerating of these units does not come at the same time as the renumbering??
