There is a severe shortage of cover hoppers at the Empire sub, so CSX send some cylindrical hoppers. I got some of Uncle Will's undec hoppers, and repainted with Floquil acrylics. I dont like to paint with acrylics, but it was the only CSX tan I could find.
Cool Job John! Where do you find the decals? I think you have the biggest and most beautiful CSX Collection in Z all over the world!
I have more CSX hopper. Does anybody know if they use two bay hoppers for grain. I only know that they use for silica.
John's CSX is growing larger than his layout! John, What ya gonna do when you have so much CSX there is no more track visible for it is all covered with rollingstock and loco's? I mean, your lead diesel loco is about a 1/4" from the FRED on the end of the rollingstock you are pulling? Dang!!! Gonna be time for John to do some re-modeling soon! :teeth: The newest addition to your fleet of CSX looks great! Hobo Tim
John, You should have waited. In a recent email from Will he said that CSX cylindrical hoppers are due out very soon!! Yours look great though.
Tim, I am having lot of operational problems because I have toooooo many cars for my layout. We were talking about how to solve my problem in our chat session in Z Central, but you were late. I may have to retire some of my ribsides soon. I still have 3 tankers, 4 FR PS2, 2 CSX engines, and a BNSF engine on the way. Thats it, I am not buying a single thing anymore. Well, not until next month. Joe, I dont mind. In fact is good news. I need more CSX cover hoppers.
You need to build some modules, John. Then you can have more room to run and just hang them on the walls like the works of art we know they will be when you aren't running trains. ;-) Randy
Do what I am doing... Pick a prototype and an era you like the most, and target your collection with that in mind. Then when you finally have enough stuff for such a layout, cull the roster of items that you bought and liked, but were not really useful for that railroad, and sell it all off. From then on, only buy stuff you can really use, and spend your time tearing up old tracks and sections of the layout, and re-do then different for fun!
John, EXPAND! A layout is never finished, it is just waiting to expand. That is my philosophy, which also had gotten me into a little bit of trouble. Sure 27' may sound long, but what about 37'! That is my goal this year. I also think most of us need more yard space. It is amazing how fast we can fill our sidings and yards. Rob
Robert, I do limit myself to one railroad most of the time, but a man needs variety sometimes. I also hate to sell my stuff. I been thinking of redoing my layout. It was build when I didn't know anything about how to lay tracks. I still dont, but I am getting better at it. Also, I would like to use some the lesson I learn from this forum. Rob, there is nothing I want more, but its not going to happen until the boys are on their own. The oldest one is only twelve, and its already taller then me. And no, I am not a midget. I have survey the house for layout space, but have been turn down by the zoning department(wife). I am going to make it happen one of this days, but I have to use a diplomatic approach. Randy, I would really like to do my next layout in module form. First, I would build the two end modules, then add modules to the middle. But for now, I am pretty much stuck with what I have.
John, send the boys to military school and buy the wife more presents. Problem solved! We are pulling for you! Rob
Here is my latest CSX running stock. I painted a undec FR PS2 into a CSX colors. I used Polly S CSX tan, and custom made decals made for by Alan.
Thanks guys. I just cannot get enought CSX running stock. Everytime I think I had enough, then another catches my eye, and I want to model it. I am beginning to think there isn't much love for CSX in z scale. The only ones who model it is me and Joe. Is there anybody else?
John, Hey what about me! My main focus (North American) is modern, east coast railroads. This is CSX, NS and the former Conrail. I even put on the cover of Ztrack a photo of my CSX SD40-2 with a string on CSX hoppers. I can't wait for the CSX SD70s to come out (but it may be a while). Fortunately, the CSX coal porters may not be too far off. Rob
