Was going to post this on the HO thread, but think it applicable to all scales.

I want to build some large background buildings representing 20's through 40's construction. I have seen some gorgeous buildings where the facades and maybe a side or 2 were modeled. Most of the large kit buildings are either not available or not suitable for the era.

Anyone have any links or book suggestions on how to do this? I have gone to YouTube but mostly see folks building large buildings from acrylics for modern buildings. Some quite good, but not what I'm looking for. I think I have the skills to do a large wooden building, but am primarily interested in large brick or stone buildings. I have several DPM kit buildings on my layout. Of course I could go larger, but there is only so much variety in looks that can be done w/ those.

Any suggestions on techniques or resources?

I will be building several very modern buildings. In the short run I'll e using paper on foam. they won't look like much but I'll get a space / feel for them while I figure how to build more convincing structures.

I do most of my 'design' work in MS paint with: 1pixel to the inch. Skyscrapers will need to be built to a different scale, 'extreme selective compression'. In my dreams the 'Grandure Station' will be 30" tall, (at the moment it is just a few sketches).

You might look up some of George Sellios’s videos on YouTube on planning large structures on his model railroad. He has some very large structures in the time period you are considering.
