    Hello
DCC++ can have 2 outputs: main and programming track
How should the wiring be made to have the programming track part of the main for "regular"operation", and then switched to a programming track to program an engine?
Or does the programming track ALWAYS stays as such, and cannot be part of the main when there is no programming necessary?
Here is a portion of my layout: so the question is how do I make the programming track part of the main layout or keep is insulated for programming?

You can put in a DPDT toggle switch on the feeder wires to switch the programming track from MAIN to PROG on demand, just be sure to gap both rails! There is no code way to do this today.
