Read the description below the movie where I tell you about the third car and the front drivers on the engine not turning because they are derailed in the first scene.

Did I mention that Don F. and I figured out that was a $3,000 train in the video. The PFEs cost almost as much as the engine.

Finally got the engine wires switched. So the toots for forward and back are correct. Got the lights programmed to forward light on in forward and the reverse...
Now if I could just get the guy to stop shoveling coal into the oil fired engine - without messing with all the other great sounds.
I'm using Decoder Pro and the Loksound programmer by ESU. Loksound 3.5 micro decoder.

Anybody tried to DCC the AZL GS-4?

Have any of you tried to DCC the AZL GS-4 with Sound?
I guess the same decoder can be used, but may be with another sound?
What type of sound would be selected with the locsound decoder for this type of engine?

I have a decoder and the small speakers waiting to be installed, but may be I will have another so I can DCC both locos. :tb-biggrin:

Look at the ESU site for the different sounds available. I found 82867 is for a 4-8-2. Keep checking and you will find what you need.

I looked into this a while back when I went to power the tender. I came to the final idea to power a car instead and add sound and DCC in the tender, but I don't recall what I was going to use. I'll try to dig it out before I leave for my trip.

I know the tender is predrilled to install a speaker and board.

Wow!! I just found this thread and I am massively impressed!!! It kinda makes me want to sell a lot of my extra stuff and get a second job so I can afford to get into Z scale, but for now I will stick with N. Very nice work though!!

Check out my video of AZL Challenger with sound

Finally I have finished a testvideo of the first testrun of my Challenger with DCC and Sound. Some adjustments still to be done on lighteffects, etc, but it give a good picture of how it will look and sound.

Check out the video on youtube and also my blog with some images showing the installation:

Yes, if I could find one small enough. There is space in the boiler.

I knew you could do it Svein. Suggestions if I may?
    1. Tone down the firebox. Yours looks like mine did at Medford - "your engineer looks like he is on fire!".
    2. Try surface mount instead of the regular size resistors. Kind of hard to solder but easier to "tuck".
Sounds like the ESU LokSound decoder. Sounds great.

I tell them it has one. Can't they see the smoke? :)

Just curious. Did you use the sound boxes on the back of the speakers? I got twice the volume using them.

Now that sounds awsome! Smoke was the only thing left I could think of to make it better.

Thank you for the suggestions. I know about the light, so thats one point that is not finished yet, but I have not had time to look at it yet. I remember it also from Medford. So this is one point that need to be fixed. Another thing is the whistle that should blow when you change direction or start. You discussed that in the thread earlier.
Do you have a setup on all the CV's you have changed to set the sound, etc?
Is it not possible to dump the content to a file with lokprogrammer og JMRI(That Robert use on his layout)?
I had the resistors and it was space enough, so I used what I had.:)
