I am new to this and I am looking at decoders. I would like flashing ditch lights on my motive power. Would that be one function or does that take two functions?

Welcome to the forum, since I model in '40's steam I don't use that function, I'm sure someone else will give you good information. I think that there are decoders made that will use only 1 function, I could be wrong.

OK, new update, I was just looking at some Lenz decoders and saw one that included "programmable flashing" as an extra function.

Here's a thought, when you program your decoder you can set it to remember it's last setting so you can have the ditch lights on normally and when you want them to flash, just hit the button. Or if you want them to flash all the time hit the button and let it stay on all the time. I have operating marker lights on my steam locos and leave the function on at all times.
    Hope this helps.

On the Digitrax FX decoders, the ditch lights are tied to the horn function. This is activated by pushing F2 (after all lights are on F0 and F1) on the Digitrax throttle.

For wiring: (Digitrax FX decoders) wire the two ditch light bulbs each to the blue wire.
Wire the purple lead to one ditch light bulb.
On the other bulb, wire it to the green wire. NOTE:Use proper resisters if needed.

    Programing: (Using Digitrax system)
    CV 51 - value 6A
    CV 52 - value 6B
    CV 63 - value 40

That should get you going. E-mail if you have any problems.

You all must be talking HO or larger. I think it is near impossible to install working ditch lights in N scale.

    railfan, I use a Lenz 01.

I found that it was real easy to get started, and have fun. I am a slow learner and am enjoying finding out new things every day. My first loco with sound should be arriving in about a month and I can't wait.
